HOSTS file ROBOFORM XP
I see no forum heading for HOSTS and Spybot (just a closed EAQ where HOSTS are #4). Spybot, while a great program I have used for some time, has zero explanation about how IT ITSELF affect the HOSTS file
(contenting itself with explaining about HOSTS without any Spybot-related info),
here is an excerpt of my advice to the roboform folks re no web access to
the roboform site:
This is an updated reply to the below issue (which I temp.fixed using
your workaround www.nslookup.roboform.com)
The problem was in my hosts file, which was 'protected' by Spybot S&D
Although I had tweaked my hosts file in previous pcs, had not in this laptop
Spybot S&D ' help file re Hosts sucks (it tells newbies what it is but
nada about how Spybot treats it
(inserts blacklist/whitelist and write-protects it)
If you want to give advice re this to others :
close all browsers
Run Spybot, select Mode->Advanced
Select Tools, select Hosts (show Hosts file)
In left column select Hosts file
find roboform entry near top of page and select
(this is the 'whitelist' has ## signs and at end says 'inserted by
Spybot...)
click on 'delete selected entries' on top
(to be thorough scroll down to the blacklist, ensure no www.roboform.com
but requires pagedown or mouse drag on vertical scrollbar = will take awhile
[I had no entry there])
wait until done
HTH. FWIW.
