Judging by the various threads I'm seeing, this little guy seems to be making life miserable for lots of folks. I've read the "Before you post" segment and hope I get this right!

Before coming to this site I went to Microsoft and uploaded the service pack (1) for my Vista OS and also started the 'Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool'; I stopped it about midway after reading the process through here. I don't think it had a chance to change anything, but you would know better than I.

Below are the results from Spybot SD as well as the DSS text. And finally, I'm attaching the 'Attach.zip' file as requested. I hope you can help.

Your infected with a rootkit

Download aswMBR.exe ( 511KB ) to your desktop.

Double click the aswMBR.exe to run it


Click the "Scan" button to start scan



On completion of the scan click save log, save it to your desktop and post in your next reply

• Download OTL to your desktop.
• Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
• When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.
• Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
• Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
  
  • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt.
    Note:These logs can be located in the OTL. folder on you C:\ drive if they fail to open automatically.
  • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post it with your next reply. You may need two posts to fit them both in.
