By the way what is PM? I'm new.

Hi

PM = private message.

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner. You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then start to download the latest definition files.
  • Once the scanner is installed and the definitions downloaded, click Next.
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:

    o Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:

    + Extended (If available otherwise Standard)

    o Scan Options:

    + Scan Archives
    + Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan select My Computer
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run. Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
  • Now click on the Save as Text button
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.

Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble with the accept button of the license, click on the Zoom tool located at the right bottom of the IE window and set the zoom to 75 %. Once the license accepted, reset to 100%.

Hi

That looks like a false positive.

Let's find out:

Please make sure that you can view all hidden files. Instructions on how to do this can be found here:

How to see hidden files in Windows

Please click this link-->Jotti

When the jotti page has finished loading, click the Browse button and navigate to the following file and click Submit.

C:\program files\common files\microsoft shared\speech\wab64.dll

Please post back the results of the scan in your next post.

If Jotti is busy, try the same at Virustotal: http://www.virustotal.com/

Jotti

Hi!

Tried uploading the particular file...in fact many times, but failed. Message obtained from Jotti

"The file you uploaded is 0 bytes. It is very likely a firewall or a piece of malware is prohibiting you from uploading this file"

I can see the file though. It is 1022kb in size.

Pls help!

Hi

If you right-click it, choose Properties and Version, what does it say for Owner/Company?

Hi

I dont really understand what you trying to ask me to do. However pls find below information pertaining to the file obtained from its properties :
Type = Application Extension
Opens With = Unknown application

Other info are :
location = C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Speech
size = 0.98 MB (1,036,288 bytes)
Size on disk = 0.98 MB (1,036,288 bytes)
Created = Today, December 18, 2007, 9:31:30 PM
Modified = Today, December 18, 2007, 9:31:32 PM
Assessed = Today, December 18, 2007
Attributes = Archive

Other files in the "speech" directory is sapi.dll and a "1033" folder which contain a file - spcplui.dll.

Hi

Ok, maybe no such info.

Try to copy (not move) that file to some other folder and try again if you can upload it to virustotal.

Sorry, I missed out 3 other files that are also inside the "speech" directory apart from those mentioned earlier :

sapi (a control panel extension file), 152kb
sapisvr (an application file),36kb
svchost (an application file), 1396kb

I think I have managed to upload the file to Virus Total to have it analyzed. I renamed the file to 1234.old before doing so and herebelow is the result :

Hi

Yes it looks like that both are bad, we need samples:

Download suspicious file packer from here

Unzip it to desktop, open it & paste in the list of files below, press next & it will create an archive (zip/cab file) on desktop

c:\program files\common files\microsoft shared\speech\wab64.dll
c:\program files\common files\microsoft shared\speech\svchost.exe

Go to spykiller

Press new topic, make threads title "Files for Shaba"
Include to your message a link to here, then attach the cab/zip file to your message and post the topic
If you cant locate it through the browse button just copy/paste the filename and path.

After you have done that, please reply in this thread :)

Hi

That is just fine :)

Download OTMoveIt by OldTimer to your Desktop.
  • Double click OTMoveIt.exe to launch it.
  • Copy/Paste the contents of the box below into the left hand pane of OTMoveIt.
c:\program files\common files\microsoft shared\speech\wab64.dll
c:\program files\common files\microsoft shared\speech\svchost.exe
  • Click the Move It button.
  • The list will be processed and the results will appear in the right hand pane.
  • If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.
  • When finished click Exit to exit the programme.
  • A log C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles\mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log will be created (where mmddyyyy_hhmmss are numbers giving date and time the log was created) alogn with a fresh HijackThis log.
