Please elaborate on your problem.
I'm assuming you are running Windows XP OS?
The latest version is 1.5.2.20 (Spybot-Search&Destroy).
Have you downloaded the latest updates then Immunizing?
Have you clicked the IMMUNIZE tab/button?

let me walk you through it
run update
exit update
click immunize over on the left side
immunize will tell you how many are and are not immunized
no changes are made to the database
maybe close your browser
click the immunize button at the TOP
immunization will now take place
when changes are complete you are done- no pop up notification
run a scan if you need to
do something else

As Spybot adds more entries to the hosts file each week it will become even larger over the years, what will we do then? our computers may become slow!

sehn, actually no. A member mentioned some weeks ago, that they were frustrated with Spybot because it "bloated" their HOSTS file. Actually this is not true. I made a recent backup of my HOSTS file with SpywareBlaster 4.1 and it was 222kb. Surely a 220kb file couldn't hinder or even slow down a connection. At least that is what I see.
The HOSTS file will be more like your first wall of defense, so malicious connections will not infiltrate your PC. However, the sad thing is that it can be "hi-jacked" and changed, so the compromised computer cannot visit security websites.

Immunization lacks Firefox items

I'm a newbie here. First of all, I want to thank people who are building and improoving Spybot S&D.
I've been using Spybot S&D since I started two years ago with a home PC & Internet connexion.
It's THE must have Antispyware, a great tool! I learned a lot with it!
But for the first time, I have a strange problem I couldn't fix.
Immunisation doesn't protect 27279 Firefox Items! That never happened before.:FF:
Details :
[27279 non protected Firefox Items/ on a total 119463 items
default (cookies) : 192
default (images) : 9029
default (installations) : 9029
default (popups) : 9029
Everything's OK for IE & Global hosts items.]
I searched all around for solutions, but could'nt find any.
I tried this : --> "Open Spybot > Immunize > under Windows uncheck Global (Hosts). Go into Spybot > Mode > Advanced Mode > Tools > Hosts file > and then click on the "Add Spybot S&D hosts list" button. Go back into Spybot > Immunize"
It didn't fix the problem, as it seems ot to be related to IE nor Global (Hosts) (???)
Anyway, I don't know anything about what are host files, Internet protocols nor "ports", and it's very difficult for me to understand these very technical issues in English.
Moreoften, I'm trying to get help on French mutual aid forums, but concerning that Spybot issue, I couldn't find any solution.

Please try the following:
Go to the folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox
There please delete the permissions.sqlite and generate a new file for the hostperm.1 that is empty.
Now please immunize again.
That should solve the problem.

Then, I tried to reset all my Firefox preferences and profile.
I tried to see if Firefox was still "working" afterthat, : it did.
I tried again to immunize : no more improvement, still the same problems.
I lauched SpybotS&D for browsing everything. At the end of browsing, when I wanted to "fix all problems", a Microsoft window told that it had to close the Spybot program for security (before corrections were done).
Afterthat, Firefox didn't work!!!
After hours trying to fix the problem (in windows data(?)/données in French protection, setting Spybot S&D in "exceptions"), Everything was blocked.
(Difficult for me to explain and translate what I did in English, like "système de prévention des données Microsoft" for instance...)
I had to reset/restart computer and retore system as it was yesterday.
Is it because I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.16???
I still don't want to go to Firefox 3, because when I tried, I lost all my favorites.
People from French Firefox forum Geckozone cannot answer my questions either.
I'm kind of desperate.
Ad-Aware is too heavy and runs too slowly...
Perhaps I should try AVG full security version, but it's expensive and seems not to be compatible with other security systems...
It's such a mess..
What do you think about these experiences?

Anti virus : avast familial ed.
Firewall : only Windows firewall...Because I had problems with ZoneAlarm, due to a Microsoft security update that caused incompatibilities w/ ZoneAlarm : no internet browsers functioned after that!! Related in www.secuser.com
