This usually means that either:
-You're not connected to the Internet
-Or you are connecting to a "bad" mirror.

Can you choose another 'mirror' to download the updates from and see if that works?

-Or you are connecting to a "bad" mirror

When I use the Search Updates, It does not go to any site. It a window opens with the error message.

I have no trouble down loading from Ad-aware or Panda software.

Hello,

1. The error message \"Error retrieving update info file\" usually appears when Spybot-S&D has accidently imported bad Internet Explorer proxy settings. In this case, it helps just to disable the proxy option in Spybot-S&D:
Open the Settings section and go to the Settings page. Locate the Use proxy entry in the Automation - Web update category, and disable it.
If you cannot see the Settings section, start Spybot-S&D in advanced mode (see your Start menu group for Spybot-S&D).

This information is also available in our How-To section (including a screenshot):
http://www.spybot.info/en/howto/proxy.html

2. Please check your firewall. Most people who do not have problem #1 do have Spybot-S&D accidently blocked in their firewall.

3. If nothing else works, you can still use the manual updater, which is available on the website: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html - the Detection Update.
(Notice: if the Info page does not show the correct update date after installing the updates with the manual updater, please ignore that - this will be fixed with the next release)

Best regards

Cannot retrieve updates

Open Control Panel
Open Firewall
Select exceptions
Add SpyBot.exe to the exception List

REBOOT the system
DONE!

This started happening to me 2 days ago - on 2 different XP computers.
One computer has Zone Alarm, and the other just has Windows Firewall.
Both show Spybot as allowed.

Bad Check Sum

I have been on holiday and just back to my PC.
Thought I would update virus and spybot before doing too much.

AV update OK but Spybot comes back with Bad Check Sum, I have tried several mirrors, all the same!

This was yesterday (Tue 4 Nov 2008) and also again this morning (Wed 5 Nov 2008).

Is there a problem with the mirrors?

Still having problems

When go the the Safe Networking page I get a page load error server not found. I've tried the other fixes I can find and nothing works.

I am running Vista home premium on a 32 bit system.

Incidentally, I am also having the same sort of problem getting Windows updates. The problems are probably related, but I cannot find a fix that works for either system.

If you have any ideas, please help.

Same problem, but cannot start spybot, what now?

I've been getting 'bad checksum', and 'error retrieveing update info' error messages for a few weeks.

So I decided to uninstall and then re-install spybot, to see if that would fix it.

It didn't fix the problem, so I searched and found this site.

But this link appears to be dead;
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

And Sypbot will not load (computer does nothing after sypbot is selected from the start menu), so I cannot change my proxy options.

What now?

Hello,
Incidentally, I am also having the same sort of problem getting Windows updates. The problems are probably related, but I cannot find a fix that works for either system.

Please see this test for one particular infection and let us know the results:
http://www.confickerworkinggroup.org/infection_test/cfeyechart.html

The link http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html works for me. Can you try that test also please. :)

Best regards.

Is my provider blocking you?

Conficker test gives = Normal/Not Infected by Conficker (or using proxy)

Firefox can't find the server at www.safer-networking.org.

Opera gives Error! could not locate remote server.

Could my service provider (Shaw in Vancouver BC) be blocking you?
