Default Google Chrome

As many might've already read, Google is about to release their "own" browser. Partly based on Webkit and Mozilla, but unclear to what extend.

This is just a notice that it's on the bug tracker as a new feature request, and will be supported asap if possible (download is 99 minutes late already, Googles announcement for 6 p.m. GMT doesn't seem to hold )

Update: Chrome stores a lot in SQLite 3 databases, which should make things easy since we understand that format to support Firefox 3 already. Might be different table schemas and different files, but looks positive so far. As for the browser itself: all that talk about crash resistancy in the comic didn't help, heard and experienced full cpu usage complaints already

It's out!
Chrome
Been using it for a day now and it is faster than Firefox at opening. You can read their storybook here
Storybook

It doesn't rely on Gecko but on WebKit.
AppleWebKit/525.13 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/0.2.149.27 Safari/525.13

yep - Google Chrome Support = Support for all other browsers using Webkit engine

Im writing this with Google Crome, to be honest, I have experienced multiple crashes (which the different tab process thing didn't help, because it froze the whole pc ) but I like like minimalist design - If they patched up those bugs, solved a few annoyances (like, where's the 'add to dictionary' option?) and tracked me less...this could seriously become my primary browser.....

....until I realise how much I can't live without my precious FF add-ons! (Seriously, Crome could do with a bit of ad blocking!)

Anonymizing the Client ID from the config file: ChromeAnon.exe.
More later, since it's a quick hack it's 1 MB, should become way less in a few hours.

As for Chrome upport = Support for all Webkit browsers: I don't think so
Webkit itself defines nothing, otherwise we would already have had something to re-use from Safari for Windows

And yes, some way to block ads, including Google Ads, would've been nice

I took Chrome for a test-drive and did not like it.
Off my PC it went in fairly short order.

Looks like we've found our ad blocking!

http://lifehacker.com/5046529/how-to...-google-chrome

The article describes how you can use Privoxy to block sites that are responsible for serving up ads. I have found it works quite well, and because you have to change your global internet configuration, it blocks ads in other browsers, not only Chrome. (this is useless in FF)

I haven't experienced any decrease in speed, but Privoxy does add a blue icon in your task bar (if you're crazy about that kind of thing! )

For ad blocking through proxies, Proxomitron is always my favorite
Didnt use it for a long time because I am Adblock-spoiled probably and had forgotten about it

Wasn;t there some major security flaw that was not fixed in google chrome that had to be swiftly fixed in apple's browser?

Auto-downlaoding certain files to the desktop? I think it was Java class files in this case.
Indeed kind of embarassing, one would think Google has the resources to let someone research which problems the only other "popular" WebKit based browser for Windows had But then, it's a beta, and a beta test (at least a classical one with a bit less hype maybe) is there to find such things.
