Description:
This program downloads several malware products from the internet and creates autorun entries thus running on each system startup without the user taking note of it. In addition to this the program installs itself to "C:\Program Files\AutoUpdate\" and places several files in the system folder without user consent or knowledge.

Removal Instructions:

Autorun:

Please use Spybot-S&D, RunAlyzer or msconfig.exe to remove the following autorun entries.
  • Entries pointing to "AUTOUP~1\AUTOUP~1.EXE".

Installed Software List:

You can try to uninstall products with the names listed below; for items identified by other properties or to avoid malware getting active again on uninstallation, use Spybot-S&D or RunAlyzer to locate and get rid of these entries.
  • Products that have a key or property named "AutoUpdate".
  • Products that have a key or property named "POP".

Files:

Please use Windows Explorer or another file manager of your choice to locate and delete these files.
  • The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\POP\pop138.dll".
  • The file at "<$WINDIR>\Downloaded Program Files\EnvoloAutoUpdater.exe".
  • The file at "<$WINDIR>\Downloaded Program Files\Pop.inf".
  • The file at "<$WINDIR>\Downloaded Program Files\pop161.dll".
  • The file at "<$WINDIR>\Downloaded Program Files\pop138.dll".
  • The file at "<$WINDIR>\Downloaded Program Files\pophook.dll".
  • The file at "<$WINDIR>\Downloaded Program Files\popsrv117.exe".
  • The file at "<$SYSDIR>\auto_update_uninstall.exe".
  • The file at "<$SYSDIR>\auto_update_uninstall.log".
  • The file at "c:\Program Files\AutoUpdate\AutoUpdate.exe".
  • The file at "c:\Program Files\AutoUpdate\libexpat.dll".
  • The file at "<$SYSDIR>\auto_update_uninstall.exe".
Make sure you set your file manager to display hidden and system files. If PeopleOnPage uses rootkit technologies, use our RootAlyzer or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins.
You will have to use a global search for files without a name specified. Be extra careful, because just the name might not be enough to identify files!

Registry:

You can use regedit.exe (included in Windows) to locate and delete these registry entries.
  • Delete the registry key "AutoLoader" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\".
  • A key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ named "POP.Server", plus associated values.
  • Delete the registry key "{645FD3BC-C314-4F7A-9D2E-64D62A0FDD78}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\".
  • Delete the registry key "{65C8C1F5-230E-4DC9-9A0D-F3159A5E7778}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\".
  • Delete the registry key "{8023A3E7-AB95-4C23-8313-0BE9842CC70E}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\".
  • Delete the registry key "{976C4E11-B9C5-4B2B-97EF-F7D06BA4242F}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\".
  • Delete the registry key "{D5580D6F-0E5F-4BDB-9CDF-F8EE68BEB008}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\".
  • Delete the registry key "{A19A291A-9653-4498-93F6-5BA06CF699D8}" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Code Store Database\Distribution Units\".
  • Delete the registry key "{D5580D6F-0E5F-4BDB-9CDF-F8EE68BEB008}" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Code Store Database\Distribution Units\".
  • Delete the registry key "{65C8C1F5-230E-4DC9-9A0D-F3159A5E7778}" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\Browser Helper Objects\".
  • Delete the registry key "{8023A3E7-AB95-4C23-8313-0BE9842CC70E}" at "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Explorer Bars\".
  • Delete the registry value "{645FD3BC-C314-4F7A-9D2E-64D62A0FDD78}" at "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\WebBrowser\".
  • Delete the registry value "{645FD3BC-C314-4F7A-9D2E-64D62A0FDD78}" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\".
  • Delete the registry key "POP" at "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\".
  • Delete the registry key "POP" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\".
  • Delete the registry key "Envolo" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\".
  • Delete the registry value "{65C8C1F5-230E-4DC9-9A0D-F3159A5E7778}" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\".
  • References to the file "Downloaded Program Files/pop161.dll" at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ModuleUsage\.
  • References to the file "Downloaded Program Files/pop138.dll" at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ModuleUsage\.

  • References to the file "Downloaded Program Files\popsrv117.exe" at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDlls\.
  • Delete the registry value "UninstallString" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\AutoUpdate\".
If PeopleOnPage uses rootkit technologies, use our RegAlyzer, RootAlyzer or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins.
