The following instructions have been created to help you to get rid of "CoolWWWSearch.Toolband" manually.

Description:
This toolbar registers as a browser helper object (BHO) without user consent.
It appears to use known established searchsites, but it also secretly uses different searchsites when the user clicks the "links" added by this toolbar.
These links refer to a useless searchsite, the mainsearch itself is also useless. The searchsites are unsuited for minors.

The library of the BHO also refers to a site registered to a known member of the CWS group.
Removal Instructions:

Autorun:

Please use Spybot-S&D, RunAlyzer or msconfig.exe to remove the following autorun entries.
  • Entries named "UPSUtl".

Files:

Please use Windows Explorer or another file manager of your choice to locate and delete these files.
  • The file at "<$WINDIR>\rdt.ini".
  • The file at "<$WINDIR>\Downloaded Program Files\Toolband.dll".
  • The file at "<$WINDIR>\search.html".
  • The file at "<$WINDIR>\blank.html".
Make sure you set your file manager to display hidden and system files. If CoolWWWSearch.Toolband uses rootkit technologies, use our RootAlyzer or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins.
You will have to use a global search for files without a name specified. Be extra careful, because just the name might not be enough to identify files!

Important: There are more files that cannot be safely described in simple words. Please use Spybot-S&D to remove them.

Registry:

You can use regedit.exe (included in Windows) to locate and delete these registry entries.
  • Delete the registry value "{08BEC6AA-49FC-4379-3587-4B21E286C19E}" at "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\WebBrowser\".
  • Delete the registry value "{08BEC6AA-49FC-4379-3587-4B21E286C19E}" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\".
  • Delete the registry key "{0BBADB0A-AE5D-4E11-95AB-94D006C677F2}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\".
  • Delete the registry key "{5297E905-1DFB-4A9C-9871-A4F95FD58945}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib\".
  • A key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ named "ToolBand.PopupNS", plus associated values.
  • A key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ named "ToolBand.PopupNS.1", plus associated values.
  • A key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ named "ToolBand.StartBHO", plus associated values.
  • A key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ named "ToolBand.ToolBandObj", plus associated values.
  • A key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ named "ToolBand.ToolBandObj.1", plus associated values.
If CoolWWWSearch.Toolband uses rootkit technologies, use our RegAlyzer, RootAlyzer or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins.
