Description:
Even though they state that millions of users use their system, I've never run about such a domain, so I would call it safe to remove it without any loss. Also, New.Nets TLDs are not officially approved.
Supposed Functionality:
New.net wants to give access to new non-official top-level-domains.
Removal Instructions:

Autorun:

Please use Spybot-S&D, RunAlyzer or msconfig.exe to remove the following autorun entries.
  • Entries named "New.net Startup" and pointing to "*NEWDOT*.DLL*".
  • Entries named "New.net Startup" and pointing to "rundll32 C:\PROGRA~1\NEWDOT~1\NEWDOT~2.DLL,NewDotNetStartup -s".
  • Entries named "New.net Startup".
  • Entries pointing to "NewDotNetStartup".

Installed Software List:

You can try to uninstall products with the names listed below; for items identified by other properties or to avoid malware getting active again on uninstallation, use Spybot-S&D or RunAlyzer to locate and get rid of these entries.
  • Products that have a key or property named "New.net".
  • Products that have a key or property named "FirstLook".
  • Products that have a key or property named "QuickSearch Toolbar".

Make sure you set your file manager to display hidden and system files. If NewDotNet uses rootkit technologies, use our RootAlyzer or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins.
You will have to use a global search for files without a name specified. Be extra careful, because just the name might not be enough to identify files!

Important: There are more files that cannot be safely described in simple words. Please use Spybot-S&D to remove them.

Folders:

  • A key with a likely random name in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\ that has "New.net Installer" as its default value data.
  • A key with a likely random name in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\ that has "SearchControl Class" as its default value data.
  • A key with a likely random name in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Typelibs\ that has "tldctl2 1.0 Type Library" as its default value data.
  • A key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ named "Tldctl2.SearchControl", plus associated values.
  • A key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ named "Tldctl2.Tldctl2c", plus associated values.
  • A key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ named "Tldctl2.URLLink", plus associated values.

  • Delete the registry key "New.net" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\".
  • Delete the registry key "FirstLook" at "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\".
  • Delete the registry key "{4A2AACF3-ADF6-11D5-98A9-00E018981B9E}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\".

  • A key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ named "QuickSearch.DeskSearchBand.1", plus associated values.

Browser:

The following browser plugins or items can either be removed directly in your browser, or through the help of e.g. Spybot-S&D or RunAlyzer.
  • Please remove Browser Helpers named "URLLink Class".
  • Look for ActiveX software installed from "www.new.net".

Special Parts:
