Description:
According to http://and.doxdesk.com/parasite/NetworkEssentials.html it sends visited URLs to its controlling servers. There is a privacy statement for the website, and a link to the terms that should contain 'SmartPops.com downloadable Application Privacy Statement' (& License Agreement), but I couldn't find any privacy information in that second one. Only that you may not interfere with its proper working.

Autorun:

Please use Spybot-S&D, RunAlyzer or msconfig.exe to remove the following autorun entries.
  • Entries named "SearchEnhancement".
  • Entries pointing to "\scbar\v1\scbar.exe".
  • Entries pointing to "se\v2\se.exe".

Installed Software List:

You can try to uninstall products with the names listed below; for items identified by other properties or to avoid malware getting active again on uninstallation, use Spybot-S&D or RunAlyzer to locate and get rid of these entries.
  • Products that have a key or property named "Network Essentials".

Files:

Please use Windows Explorer or another file manager of your choice to locate and delete these files.
  • A file with an unknown location named "RH.DLL".
  • A file with an unknown location named "RH.exe".
  • The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\scbar\v1\scbar.dll".
  • The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\scbar\v1\scbar.exe".

Make sure you set your file manager to display hidden and system files. If Network Essentials uses rootkit technologies, use our RootAlyzer or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins.

  • A key with a likely random name in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\ that has "Hopper Class" as its default value data.
  • A key with a likely random name in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Typelibs\ that has "SP 1.0 Type Library" as its default value data.
  • A key with a likely random name in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Typelibs\ that has "HP 1.0 Type Library" as its default value data.
  • A key with a likely random name in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interfaces\ that has "IHopperEvents" as its default value data.
  • A key with a likely random name in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interfaces\ that has "ISPSearch" as its default value data.
  • A key with a likely random name in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interfaces\ that has "ISPCommand" as its default value data.
  • A key with a likely random name in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interfaces\ that has "ISmartPops" as its default value data.
  • A key with a likely random name in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interfaces\ that has "IHopper" as its default value data.
  • Delete the registry key "{D5C778F1-CF13-4E70-ADF0-45A953E7CB8B}" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\Browser Helper Objects\".
  • Delete the registry key "SearchEnhancement" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\".
  • Delete the registry key "{22941A26-7033-432C-94C7-6371DE343822}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\".
  • Delete the registry value "{9368D063-44BE-49B9-BD14-BB9663FD38FC}" at "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\URLSearchHooks\".
  • Delete the registry key "{00041A26-7033-432C-94C7-6371DE343822}" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\Browser Helper Objects\".
  • Delete the registry key "{22941A26-7033-432C-94C7-6371DE343822}" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\Browser Helper Objects\".
  • Delete the registry key "Search-Exe" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\".
  • Delete the registry value "{9368D063-44BE-49B9-BD14-BB9663FD38FC}" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\UrlSearchHooks\".
  • Delete the registry key "{0421701D-CF13-4E70-ADF0-45A953E7CB8B}" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\Browser Helper Objects\".
If Network Essentials uses rootkit technologies, use our RegAlyzer, RootAlyzer or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins.

Browser:

The following browser plugins or items can either be removed directly in your browser, or through the help of e.g. Spybot-S&D or RunAlyzer.
