what is d3d9caps.dat?

i don't know what it is, i deleted it (and another file d3d9caps64.dat) a couple days ago and it apparently got recreated, with a google search some sites say its malware and a lot of hits are from combofix logs in the "Find3MReport" section

recently spybot started finding this, i try to fix it but it always comes back (along with other cookies such as statcounter, zedo, mediaplex etc) i scanned a little while ago and there were 2 entries in chrome

i haven't ever visited any porn sites and i don't remember getting any popups, how do i remove this thing?

This file is suspected to be part of DirectX Direct3D.
