Hi

For some reason the Spybot executable has disappeared. The strange thing is that whenever I try to reinstall it, the executable is never copied.

I suspect there is some virus o similar affecting the program. I've check in this page but have not seen anything.

Below you can fing the hjt log.

Regards and Thanks in advance

Hi and welcome to the forums :)

You got some infections....

You should print these instructions or save these to a text file. Follow these instructions carefully.

Please download Bagle remover (by ESET) (http://koti.mbnet.fi/jpk88/BGLCLEAN.ZIP) (I have uploaded it to my homepage because you migth not be able to contact eset.com.)
And save it to C:\
Extract the contents of the zip file to C:\

Restart your computer to the safe mode:
Restart your computer
Start tapping the F8 key when the computer restarts.
When the start menu opens, choose Safe mode
Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.

Go to C:\ and run the file BGLCLN.exe
Scan with it and clean if something is found in the scan.

Restart to the normal mode.

Please run a GMER Rootkit scan:

Download GMER's application from here:
majorgeeks.com (http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=5198)

Unzip it and start the GMER.exe
Click the Rootkit tab and click the Scan button.

Once done, click the Copy button.
This will copy the results to your clipboard.
Paste the results in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

Warning ! Please, do not select the "Show all" checkbox during the scan.

Hi,

Thanks for your quick reply.

I followed your instructions but I can not enter into Safe Mode. The system presents a blue screen complaining about INNACCESIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE.

I've done a chkdsk /F, restarted the system into Safe Mode and the same problem appears.

Regards

Andoni

You can find below the results.

There many instances in the scan for register and files but I have unclick those options in the scan because the size of the file was too large. I hope this is enough.

Thanks

Ok the file was too large....

I need the whole file so could you please run a new scan with gmer (check the boxes you unchecked) and the upload the logfile to eg rapidshare (www.rapidshare.com)

Then please post the link to your log to here.

Sorry for the delay...

Ok good, now we'll get rid of the bug.

Run a new rootkit scan with GMER.

When you see the following process(es) on the list:

Process C:\WINNT\system32\hldrrr.exe (*** hidden *** )

Rigthclick it with your mouse and a menu will open. Choose "Kill Process" from the list.

When you see the following files on the list:
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\hidires
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\hidires\hidr.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\hidires\m_hook.sys
C:\WINNT\system32\hldrrr.exe

Rigthclick those with your mouse and a menu will open. Choose "Delete file" from the list. You need to do this one by one.

When you see the following service on the list:

Service C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\hidires\m_hook.sys

Rigthclick it with your mouse and a menu will open. Choose "Delete the service" from the list.
If GMER asks for a reboot allow it to do it.

Then close GMER and restart your computer.

Run a new scan with GMER but don't use your computer during the scan.
When the scan has finished please copy/upload the results to me

Ok looking good :)
How is the computer running ?

Please install one antivirus and firewall. Otherwise you'll get infected again !!
You may scan your computer with the antivirus you install, no need for kaspersky then.

Let me know how things are running :bigthumb:

Ok good :)

Now you can clean AVG's Quarantine:
Open AVG Anti-Spyware
Click Infections
Click Quarantine tab
Click Select all
Click Remove finally
Close the program
You can remove the tools we used.

Then you should update your Java to the latest version (6.0) Start
Control Panel
Add/Remove Programs
Delete the old Java, J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 9
Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.0 (http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp).
Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications."
Click the "Download" button to the right.
Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement."
The page will refresh.
Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
Install it

Now you can make your hidden files hidden again.
Go to My Computer
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options
Click the View tab.
Checkmark the "Display the contents of system folders"
Under the Hidden files and folders select "Show hidden files and folders"
Check "Hide protected operating system files"
Click Apply and then the OK and close My Computer.

So how did I get infected in the first place?

I've followed your instructions and installed some of the software you are recommending. I think I'll be lot safer now.

One more question.

Why is that after executing the ATF-Cleaner firefox is no longer able to display correctly some webpages?

Ok good :)

Hmm what kind of errors are you experiencing with FireFox ?

paulweller
2007-01-07, 13:53
They are not exactly errors.

Some webpages happen to be shown with just text and very few images.

But I did a search here and found somebody who had the same problem.

Apparantly is something to do with cookies. I used CCleaner and the problem went.
