Popups driving me nuts

Hey, ever since I (ever so stupidly) downloaded something on a site that I knew couldn't be trusted I keep getting these pop-ups. Mosty of online casinos and dating sites.
I updated and ran everything I've got: Spybot, AdWare, AVG Anti-Virus, even CCleaner. They found something, but deleting these did not solve my popup problem.
I decided I'd try uninstalling IE 7 (Driving me up the wall anyway) and download Opera. I still get popups...now "choose the best model" or something, and when it comes, I see that its coming from IE 6, even though I made Opera my default browser, and I'm abit worried about removing that, as I read that Windows XP relies on certain things from it in order to work.

Please help! I'm on the verge of formatting my hardrive...something I REALLY don't feel like doing. :sick:
