View Full Version : Need help with a socket error
I have searched the forum and FAQs for anything regarding an error message that says "Error retrieving update info file! Socket Error # 11002".
I cannot obtain any updates as a result. Does anyone know how to fix this issue?
Thanks!

I'm not one of the Spybot Team Members so I may be wrong, but this error has to do with host servers. Chances are the update site you have selected in Spybot is not active or is not allowing access. I have never gotten this socket error but used to have problems with inability to update due to bad checksum. As soon I selected a different update server, Spybot updated fine. The server I would always have a problem with was See-Cure while Safer Networking always has worked fine.
Good Luck!
In addition to Divelucaya's advice:
If that does not help, you can download the updates manually:

Direct download link:

Check list:
If you are sitting behind a proxy server:
Open Spybot > Mode > Advanced mode > Settings > Settings.
In the option tree there is a category "Web update". Check the last item in the list "Use proxy to connect to update server". A pop-up will come up where you can enter the information required.

The integrated update is not working. Are there any solutions for this?

If you have a firewall installed, check to see if SpybotSD.exe is authorized to access the internet.
Cheers. :)
