After using these excellent forums for help in cleaning my infected system out, I was wondering what virus checker system (if any) you would recommend as the best. I don't mind spending money, as I would ideall want to make the system as safe as possible with out majorly comprimising performance.

I don't use any Outlook email system (use online email) but use the computer for all the usual home applications (surfing, pictures, various media) and work.

Thanks for your help.

Sorry if this an absolutely stupid question, but do any of those that Tashi recommend have Firewall integral to them?

Thanks

I do not believe that ESET offers a firewall (tashi – please correct me if I'm wrong).

Kaspersky offers a firewall with their Internet Security 6.0 product that includes their Anti-Virus 6.0 product.

Avira offers a firewall in their Premium Security Suite but that is not a free product were as AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic is.

If you are interested in a firewall and cost is a concern, there is a list of some free firewalls here:

i've used quite a few different brands of antivirus software and i think the best by far us are trend micro products. in fact, in the latest issue (sept 2007) of Consumer Reports Magazine, Trend Micro Internet Security 2007 was named best internet security suite. as the magazine puts it, the product "offers fairly inexpensive all-around protection". Here's the complete list from that article:

1. Trend Micro ('PC-cillin') Internet Security 2007 (now referred to as "Trend Micro Internet Security 2007") (http://www.trendmicro.com)

2. Check Point ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite 7.0

3. McAfee Total Protection 2007

4. McAfee Internet Security Suite 2007

5. Microsoft Live OneCare

6. BitDefender Internet Security 10

7. F-Secure Internet Security 2007

8. Symantec Norton 360

9. Symantec Norton Internet Security 2007

hope this helped :D:

Thats why i dont believe in what many magazines says.
Would a magazine talk bad about the companies that give them money for publicity?

Norton and Microsoft Live OneCare being there and neither NOD32 or Kaspersky are on the list tells me how good it is...

I also don't see Avira AntiVir listed although it seems to rate fairly well here:
av-comparatives.org (http://www.av-comparatives.org/)
Some actual test results are listed here:
Comparatives (http://www.av-comparatives.org/index.html?http://www.av-comparatives.org/seiten/comparatives.html)

Hi there!

Since I attained help from these forums for Malware Removal, I decided to try Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0. So far it is absolutely awesome. It has the lowest system overhead of any AV package I have used in the past. Those include Norton AV, Panda Internet Security, AVG Internet Security etc. I remember when I tried Panda Anti-virus and Firewall 2007 as a trial copy, my startup time was literally 10min! Kaspersky runs like a dream!

Thanks. :bigthumb:
