My Toolbars have gone crazy. When I open a new browser window, a Yahoo Toolbar pops up under my Google Toolbar. A Yahoo icon also pops up when I highlight text in a web page. When I go to another web page from an open one while other web windows are open, all those other windows close.

Yahoo Mail is my home page. I also have noticed that I now have only 3 % free disk space on my hard drive, although I haven't downloaded any new programs of late. I started a thread a bit over a week ago & got a response from pskelly, bit don't see that post anymore , now that I ran Spybot in safe Mode, ran Panda Software scan . I will post Panda scan & Hijack This results in next post, since a message says it's too long to include in this first one.

My Symantec Antivirus will no longer perform its automatic scan as well, as a message window states that there;s not enough free disk space to perform a scan. Yet I haven't downloaded any new programs, Looks like my problems are growing. Legstrat

I only am running Symantec anti-virus, and no other anti virus software to my knowledge for a couple of years. I am also running Kerio Personal Firewall, but I don't think that's antivirus.
It is curious that whenever I re-boot my computer, the Symantec antivirus Startup scan runs twice.

I am afraid to uninstall Symantec antivirus without other protection. What other antivirus do you see me as running? Please advise. Thanks so much!

Hi :)

I am able to see only one Symantec process in the log.

Are you sure that it is still protecting you (looks like a leftover to me) ?
Do you have a subscription to it, are you able to update it ?

Hi. I am not sure that it is still protecting me, but I update it every week online from an icon on my lower right next to my clock, and it gives me a message I am up to date. How can I determine if I am still protected? :red:

I am not paying for a continuing subscription. I thought I was up to date, as I get updates online about once a week. If I uninstall it, will I not be vulnerable in the minutes I go online to communicate with you?

Mr_JAk3
2007-02-02, 21:58
Hmm are you able to run a scan with Symantec ? What is the date of the last update ?

Please post an uninstall list to here. Start HijackThis
Click on the Config button
Click on the Misc Tools button
Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file.
When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file.
Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here on your next reply.

My scan runs early each morning. I get a window indicating the scan was successfull every morning, showing scan ran for 45 minutes or so.

A couple of times I awoke to see a Symantec message that there wasn't enough disk space to perform a scan, but other times it appears to be working fine.

Ok good :)

Sound that it is working ok.

Did you ran that scan with AVG Anti-Spyware as I instructed earlier ?

Hi again, we'll continue :)

One or more of the identified infections steal information. If this system is used for online banking or has credit card information on it, all passwords should be changed immediately by using a different computer (not the infected one!) to make the changes. Banking and credit card institutions, if any, should be notified of the possible security breech. I suggest that you read this (http://www.dslreports.com/faq/10451) article too.

You should print these instructions or save these to a text file. Follow these instructions carefully.

Make your hidden files visible:
Go to My Computer
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options
Click the View tab.
Checkmark the "Display the contents of system folders"
Under the Hidden files and folders select "Show hidden files and folders"
Uncheck "Hide protected operating system files"
Click Apply and then the OK and close My Computer.

==================

Backup your registry:
Start
Run
Type the following to the box and hit Ok: regedit
A window opens, click on File
Choose Export form the menu
Change the save location to C:\
Give the filename, RegBackUp
Make sure that the filetype is set to Registryfiles (*.reg)
Click on Save and Close the window
Open Notepad (NOT WORDPAD!) and copy the following lines from the quote box below into a new document, leaving a blank line at the end. (don't forget to copy and paste the word REGEDIT4) :

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-711745273-314854121-332942458-500\Software\AHExe]

Make sure there are NO blank lines before REGEDIT4
Make sure there IS one blank line at the end of the file.

Save the document to your desktop as Fix.reg and filetype: All Files
Go to your desktop and double click on the file to run Fix.reg and when it asks you if you want to merge the contents to the registry, click yes/ok.

Go to the My Computer and delete the following files (if present):
D:\backup\WINNT\Downloaded Program Files\flash.inf
D:\backup\WINNT\system32\pnc.exe

When you're ready, please post the following logs to here:
