I have recently been experiencing popups and internet traffic when I'm not actually doing anything online.
Also my computer has been getting progressively slower.

As you can see it is connecting to two ip addresses multiple times over 5 seconds. I traced these IP addresses to:

72.30.186.249 - Inktomi Corporation (associated with Yahoo)

213.123.84.199 - tman? (Possibly something to do with bt broadband)

When I disable my internet connection svchost.exe goes up to over 50% cpu usage.

FOr XP: on the desktop double click my computer,go to tools>folder options>view> then select "show hidden files and folders", then UNcheck "hide protected operating system files " also UNcheck "hide extensions for known file types" click apply to all folders, apply then ok

also do this:
Empty your Temp folders. Go to Start > Run and type:cleanmgr. Windows will scan. When done check these 3 and press *ok* to remove:

Temporary Files
Temporary Internet Files
Recycle Bin

reboot once, then rescan and post a new hjt log
