View Full Version : Spysheriff et al. and IE 6.0 barely working

OK, I'm hoping someone here can help me. Let me list a quick run down of what's happened:

Infecteded with Spysheriff virus even though norton catches virus and deletes it. Since then, computer has not worked well. Upgraded to IE 7.0 to see if that would make a difference...didn't. Went back to I.E. 6.0 and then found myself unable to open internet explorer with the message that msvcrl.dll was not found. I fixed that by searching for ie and replacing it with a bad copy in my c drive. Was able to run spybot in safe mode (was shutting down the computer in regular mode). I think I also had several other trojans on my computer, but I'm pretty confident I've removed most everything..I think. Currently, my ie 6.0 is running very slowly and my computer restart is easily 70% slower. Could someone check my log to see if things are on the up and up or whether I should be doing some other things. I've tried to do a stystem restore, but it won't let restore to any other previous date..any ideas. My log is below:

Hi skywayy and welcome to the Forums :)

One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan

This allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and Download and Execute files

I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.

Though the Trojan has been identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of Trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. Please read these for more information:

How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud? (http://www.dslreports.com/faq/10451)
When Should I Format, How Should I Reinstall (http://www.dslreports.com/faq/10063)

I can help you in the cleaning if you don't want to reformat but I can't promise that we'll get you 100% clean.

Please let us know what you have decided to do in your next post:bigthumb:

Sorry for the delay. I did a lot of cleaning from some other help: 1) running avg anti-virus, 2) using smitrem 3) adaware 4) spybot scan 5) atf cleaner 6) panda online scan..and everything seemed to be working ok on my computer except that my norton antivirus scans seem to shut down the computer midway through--is this heat related (this also happens with online scans). In addition, my internet explorer 6.0 doesn't function great, but that could be because I had tried upgrading to 7.0 and didn't like it...went back..and now 6.0 doesn't function well..hangs and stops working (possibly a driver issue?).

After submitting the following log, I updated my java. What else can I do; what other real problems do I have here:

I'm also not sure I was ever fully infected so to speak. I have norton internet security 7.0, anti-virus, etc. While browsing, I noticed that norton caught spysheriff. After that, several other viruses were caught. I would have thought nothing of it until my home page was secure32.html or something like that which I successfully fixed. After that, I updated windows, upgraded to ie 7.0, downgraded back to 6.0 and currerntly everything besides internet explorer and my norton anti-virus scan is working just fine.

Cleaned dust from computer..which was causing the shut down of virus scans. I ran a full norton scan..came up with nothing. I ran a housecall scan and did come up w tspy_ldpinch (win32/ldpinch) which was possibly still on my computer..deleted that. Nothing else has come up. My internet explorer is not working great after running onecare.live. Are there any other recommendations. I gather I did have a virus on my computer even though norton security quaranteened it..is that possible? Since this was a trojan, am I running any current risks with all my antivirus software up-to-date, firewalls up and running, etc?

Thanks for the help.
