hidr.exe and higlieder infection

Hi,
I was recently infected with the hidr.exe virus and after running a slew of cleaning software I came across the post here at http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=10096

I have followed most of the advice there, but not sure if I have completely removed the culprit and whether I have other issues since my machine performance is painfully slooow.

You should print these instructions or save these to a text file. Follow these instructions carefully.

Open AVG Anti-Spyware: On the main screen under Your Computer's security.
Click on Change state next to Resident shield. It should now change to inactive.
Click on Change state next to Automatic updates. It should now change to inactive.
Next to Last Update, click on Update now. (You will need an active internet connection to perform this)
Wait until you see the Update succesfull message.
Right-click the AVG Anti-Spyware Tray Icon and uncheck Start with Windows.

Got thru the fix checked of HijackThis, but could not reboot in safe mode to run the ATF Cleaner.

in about 10 seconds into loading the .sys files it pauses on vax347b.sys file and asks if I wna to skip loading it to press escape. I have tried letting it load or escaping it, but in both cases I get a blue screen that there was a problem detected and Windows need to shutdown with a code about "stop: 0x0000007B(...

My computer is running much better than it did. I'll try to research and see if there is an update for Alcohol 120 that clears the safe mode issue, or I may delete it altogether. I'll also follow the remaining directions.
