Welcome to the forum, a couple of questions. Do you know how to delete cookies?

We're infected and I've tried everything I know. Here are the requested logs from Panda and Hijack this. Thank you, in advance, for your assistance. What exactly are the symptoms of your infection? What is "tried everything" , what exactly have you done so I don't repeat it? Are you getting any error messages? If so post them for me "word for word"

Your Java program is very outdated, see this information:
http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=12880&postcount=2
Chances are you have a Vundo infection because of this.
C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_03 <<< out of date, download the newest version and uninstall all old verions in Add Remove Programs.

C:\hijackthis\hijackthis\HijackThis.exe <<< return here and point the mouse at the .exe, and right click then choose rename, Call it shosh.exe or whatever.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DllRunning] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\lvgjubqk.dll",setvm

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\lvgjubqk.dll <<< delete that file

Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart the computer and post a new HJT log along with the information I requested above and any comments you think will help.
Use "Post Reply", stay in this same topic.

Thanks

shosh

Hi,

Thank you for taking time to help.

The symptoms of infection are constant popups from WinAntiVirus and WinAntiSpyWare. If I open more than one tab in IE 7 and click on the new tab, IE 7 shuts down. Norton constantly tells me that Vundo, or Disk Cleaner or any one of many items has been found and fixed (obviously not fixed). At startup there is almost always a DLL (random name) that can't be loaded. That is most of it.

To fix it I've followed all of your preliminary steps. I've run Spybot many times. I've followed the removal steps suggested on Norton's site. I've run FixVundo. I've deleted the random DLL files listed at startup and removed the references to them in the Startup part of MSCONFIG.

I've updated JRT as requested.

I've renamed HijackThis. I ran Hijack this and removed the line you said. The file was not present so I could not delete it. I've downloaded and run ATF.

Here is the new HJT log....

Thanks for returning your information and for the for the feedback. We can see the infection now and it is indeed Vundo. We will try to do several things at once and see how it works. Since that hackers can call there junk anything they wish, vundofix may not recognize it at first and it make take several runs before you see the Vundofix.txt when it says "all files deleted" or something close to that. Then move on to the next part of the instructions. Please follow the numbered order.
C:\WINDOWS\rsvsp.dll <<< this is Vundo in your log, there will be many more hidden files the fix will find.

1) Thanks to Atribune and any others who helped with this fix.

Please download VundoFix.exe (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4) to your desktop
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log in a reply to this thread.Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

If there is a file VundoFix doesn't find we need it submitted. Please submit
the files to upload malware http://www.uploadmalware.com

2) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK. You may reverse this for safety when the fix is completed.

2) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

3) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

(files may be gone, removed by the fix, just don't miss any)

With just coming to this site to post I do not see the browser acting the way it has been. It seems stable with no pop-ups, etc. I believe you may have gotten it. What is the likely source of the Vundo infection? Or, is that impossible to know?

Again, thank you for your invaluable assistance.

I forgot one additional question. The VundoFix.txt file shows the Java version as 1.4.2.3. However, I updated this. Why does it show the old version?

Thanks for returning your information and your feedback. The HJT log appears to be clean of malware. This item:
O16 - DPF: {AF2E62B6-F9E1-4D4F-A10A-9DC8E6DCBCC0} - http://update.videoegg.com/Install/W...gPublisher.exe
Was scheduled for removal because it would not identify, if you left it because you know it, fine. If not, run HJT again agd remove it.

I forgot one additional question. The VundoFix.txt file shows the Java version as 1.4.2.3. However, I updated this. Why does it show the old version? Is it possible you ran Vundofix before you updated? or that you did not remove the old version in Add Remove programs? Let's have a look:

Open Hijackthis.
Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.
Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.
Click the "Save list..." Button.
Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.

Post that list, if everything is back to normal, then you should be good to go. You can rename HJT if you wish and remove the tool for Vundo, you would have to download it fresh if you ever need it again. You may keep ATF-Cleaner if you wish.

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:

Puzzles me, I do not see that version listed, in fact this is the only item that is questionable:
Viewpoint Media Player: For your information, Viewpoint is installed by aol probably without your knowledge. I suggest you uninstall this resource waster in Add Remove programs.
http://www.clickz.com/news/article.php/3561546
http://www.greatis.com/appdata/u/v/viewmgr.exe.htm
http://www.spywareinfo.com/newsletter/archives/2005/nov4.php#viewpoint

Take a look at the balance of the list, if you see programs you no longer use, do your hard drive a favor and get rid of them.
