w32agobot-ku on my log?

Recently, I noticed the system startup part of the Spybot SnD program. When I looked through it I realized there was w32agobotku in the scan. When I googled it up I got these instructions, At the taskbar, click Start|Run. Type 'Regedit' and press Return. The registry editor opens.


Before you edit the registry, you should make a backup. On the 'Registry' menu, click 'Export Registry File'. In the 'Export range' panel, click 'All', then save your registry as Backup.

Locate the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE entries:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\
"" = system32.exe
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices
"" = system32.exe

and delete them if they exist.

Close the registry editor.

Download and install the Microsoft patches mentioned above.

Replace the Hosts file from a backup or edit it in Notepad to remove the changes that the Trojan has made.

Check your administrator passwords and review network security.

I went through the steps; there was no "CurrentVersion" in the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion on my machine. So I decided to unselect it from the start up. (Would deleting it from Spybot pose any threat?)

Welcome to the forum, if you still need help and are not receiving it elsewhere, I see no evidence of the worm you describe:

we require at least one free online scan to look for stuff just like this. I would also appreciate it if you post the logs using copy and paste as instructed. So, let's do this if you wish help.

Move HJT from this Temp folder where we will have no backups for safety if we need them. I prefer you put it here C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe. If you need more instructions use these:

Update and run AVGFree and post the results, delete or quarantine anything located

Run at least one of the free online scans offered and post the scan results.

Restart the computer and post the online scan results, and information from the AVGFree scan, especially the name or pathway of any bad file located and a new HJT log using copy and paste. I will look over the information and post a reply as soon as possible after that. Use "Post Reply" to post the information, stay in the same topic.

Thanks for returning your information, besides the fact I do not like to run HJT from the Desktop (especially if others can access it) for safety reasons, I would prefer you move it here: C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe, but it does not look like we will use it. As far as I can see your HJT log is clean of malware. With your log looking very good:bigthumb: unless you can tell me a reason to run additional scans looking for stuff the scans you have run have not located, I would say you are good to go. Let us know if there is more we can do.

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:

Also, should I be worried about the w32agobot-ku on my log? Could I just delete it from the System Startup in Spybot?

It's not showing to anything but Spybot...correct? Delete it with Spybot, clean out any files in the "Recovery" area. If Spybot supplies a name or pathway, use Search Companion and delete anything located. Let me know if you run into any problems with this.
