View Full Version : Browser Hijack

It would appear from other threads that I'm suffering from a 'Browser Hijack'. Certain links in the Google search results window are being re-directed to various other search engine pages. It would appear when this happens the link is being re-directed through IP 216.133.243.28 in case this is of relevance.

I have followed your pre-post procedures which have revealed nothing - the etrust antivirus webscanner came up with a clean scan as did Spybot.

My hijackthis log is as follows:

G'day Lindsay, welcome to the forum, this looks like Ukranian hackers: http://whois.domaintools.com/85.255.115.38
This should be your valid information: http://whois.domaintools.com/192.189.54.33

Since you did not post the required online antivirus scan I will have to assume you missed this information:
"BEFORE you POST" -Preliminary Steps
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
Please read and make sure you follow all instructions, save the online scan results on your Dekstop until I reqest it. It may show us malware HJT can not see.

Thanks to LonnyBJones and anyone else who helped with this fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your Desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
Once the desktop loads post the text that will open (report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log in the forum please.

(hold those logs until we finish)

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{E6A8B3BB-DA80-47D2-A614-B84C53A580F9}: NameServer = 85.255.115.38,85.255.112.103
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{EBB2CF71-206F-4D81-9796-6FF8C1098561}: NameServer = 85.255.115.38,85.255.112.103
O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.115.38 85.255.112.103
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.115.38 85.255.112.103

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart the computer and post (report.txt) from Fixwareout and a new Hijackthis log along with any comments you think will help.
Use "Post Reply" to stay in the same topic.

Cheers

I did follow the pre-post procedure and ran the etrust antivirus webscanner which came up with a clean scan but didnt offer me the opportunity to save a log.

Anyway I have followed your instructions and post logs as follows:

Thanks for returning your information and the feedback. How is the computer running now? Any malware issues?

Please use Search companion and make sure these files are gone, you may nee to enable hidden files and folders:
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html
C:\WINDOWS\system32\kdyon.exe
C:\WINDOWS\temp\kdyon.ren

C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_06\ <<< check your Java progam for an update, see this:
http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=12880&postcount=2

Besides that your HJT log looks fine, any other malware problems? If not, I would say you are good to go, let's clean the System Restore files like this:
System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:

Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:

pskelley,

It would appear I'm clean; have used google and no side-effects so all is good.

Thanks for all your help.

Cheers
