I have Spybot Ver 1.4 running under Win XP HE/SP2. I also have the recent, upgraded advcheck.dll file as I run AVG.

I upgraded to Ver 1.4 about a week ago and since then I have found that the scan does not close down when I reach the final Bot-Check (number 56120); this is listed in the Status Bar as Firefox - Default- Bookmark. The program does seem to stop when I press the Stop Check button but when I check using Task Manager I find that Spybot is still using 100% CPU. The same occurs - still using 100% CPU - if I stop the scan prematurely.

Hello,

Are you sure that you have the latest advanced check library update?
Many users have reported a problem after the advanced check library update (version 1.5) from the 2007-01-12:
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=10443/_
The scan was much faster before, now it takes longer than one hour.
But we were able to fix the problem yet. You can download the new update here:
http://www.spybotupdates.com/updates/files/spybotsd_advcheck.exe
Now your Spybot - Search & Destroy should scan as usual.

Best regards

I installed the beta version of advcheck.dll a few days ago and, although it cured the avg problem, it did not cure the scan not stopping problem.

However, I have installed the latest version of advcheck.dll from the link you give but I still get the same problem; the scan stops at the last Bot Check, 56120, Firefox-default-Bookmark and, after I click the Stop button to force it to close, still shows a 100% CPU usage.

Berzelius:

Please read the following thread:
Another very long scan
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=10586

In that thread, doowopper (http://forums.spybot.info/member.php?u=8671) indicated in the following post that the checking of the browser related files at the end of a "Check for problems" was taking three to four times longer than the rest of the scan:
http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=64595&postcount=3
You could probably help the members of Team Spybot determine of there is a real problem or if that is just the nature of the scan, by:
Letting the scan continue to ran for a while and see if it eventually finishes.
Providing some qualitative information about the scan and the amount of information stored in your Firefox browser.

Thank you for the reply. As suggested, I have ran your tests.

The Spybot scan took 19 minutes and then stopped at the final (56120) Bot-Check, Firefox-default-Bookmark. I left the scan running and at some time before a further 10 minutes the scan completed itself and the cpu usage dropped to normal values.

I suspect that I have a rather large number of Firefox bookmarks. The bookmarks.html file is 1.76 MB in size and I estimate the number of entries at 1000 to 2000 (probably nearer the higher value).

So, are the number of Firefox bookmarks the cause of the delay in finishing? It does look like the culprit.
