I have been trying for weeks to stop these pop ups. It seems like every time I work on it it just gets worse. I have tried smithfix, ad-aware, spybot, combofix. I have even followed the instructions of some of the other threads. I hate to sound whipped but I can't stop it. Thought I could do anything given enough time.

Hello tjlaboo,

Welcome to Safer Networking Forums :)

* Download Dr.Web CureIt to the desktop:
ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/drweb-cureit.exe

Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and Allow to run the express scan
This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
Once the short scan has finished, mark the drives that you want to scan.
Select all drives. A red dot shows which drives have been chosen.
Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start.
Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
When the scan has finished, look if you can click next icon next to the files found: http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miekiemoes/images/check.gif
If so, click it and then click the next icon right below and select Move incurable as you'll see in next image:
http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miekiemoes/images/move.gif
This will move it to the %userprofile%\DoctorWeb\quarantaine-folder if it can't be cured. (this in case if we need samples)
After selecting, in the Dr.Web CureIt menu on top, click file and choose save report list
Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
Close Dr.Web Cureit.
Reboot your computer!! Because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web you saved previously, along with a new HijackThis log in your next reply.

Thanks,
tea

Teacup, Here is the hijackthis file. I also had another case of a IE search causing a popup that took me to "http://em.gad-network.com". This has been an intermittant problem though much less than the ameana.

Again...thanks

Hello,

Please
Download SDFix (http://downloads.andymanchesta.com/RemovalTools/SDFix.exe) and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
Choose your usual account.

Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum, along with a new HijackThis log.

Thanks,
tea

Hello,

Lots to do yet, but you're welcome. :) This is being extra stubborn. :fear:

Please download VundoFix.exe (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4) to your desktop. Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it. Click the Scan for Vundo button. Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button. You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo. When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK. Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt.

1. Download this file - combofix.exe (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/combofix.exe)
2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply please, along with a new HijackThis log.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Thanks,
tea

Hello,

No, that won't mess anything up. I see what it is now....yuck. :fear: :spider: ComboFix showed it.

Do this part so I can make sure I have all the file names and we'll get started.

Download and Save blacklight to your desktop.
F-Secure Blacklight: https://europe.f-secure.com/blacklight/try.shtml
Double-click blbeta.exe then accept the agreement.
click > scan then > next,
You'll see a list of all items found.
Don't choose rename yet! I want to see the log first, because legit items can also be present there...
There must be also a log on your desktop with the name fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx stand for numbers)
Post the contents of the log in your next reply.

Thanks,
tea

Tea, Here is the log file fsbl....I'm tryin to use some of the smiles but not sure if I used the right one or did it the right way. But it feels like you are getting this one.

I'm trying to pay attention so that you can make me smarter.

I am on hold on Blacklight till I hear from you. Thanks

Hello,

Here we go! ;) Before beginning, you may want to save these instructions to Notepad or print them out for easier reference.

Please run Blacklight again. After the scan is complete, click Next.

Highlight these files and choose rename. Reboot when done.

C:\windows\system32\drevxpus.exe
c:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\drevxpus.dat
c:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\drevxpus_nav.dat
c:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\drevxpus_navps.dat
c:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\msplock32.dll
c:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\msclock32.dll
C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch\DREVXPUS.EXE-05C05FF2.pf

After a reboot in your c:\Windows\system32 folder you should see those files with a ren extention:

C:\windows\system32\drevxpus.exe.ren
c:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\drevxpus.dat.ren
c:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\drevxpus_nav.dat.ren
c:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\drevxpus_navps.dat.ren
c:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\msplock32.dll.ren
c:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\msclock32.dll.ren
C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch\DREVXPUS.EXE-05C05FF2.pf.ren

Please go ahead and delete the above bolded files.

Please follow these instructions exactly as shown in order to achieve the best results:

1. Please download Brute Force Uninstaller (http://www.merijn.org/files/bfu.zip) to your desktop.
Right click the BFU folder on your desktop, and choose Extract All
Click "Next"
In the box to choose where to extract the files to,
Click "Browse"
Click on the + sign next to "My Computer"
Click on "Local Disk (C:) or whatever your primary drive is
Click "Make New Folder"
Type in BFU
Click "Next", and Uncheck the "Show Extracted Files" box and then click "Finish".
2. RIGHT-CLICK HERE (http://metallica.geekstogo.com/EGDACCESS.bfu) and choose "Save As" (in IE it's "Save Target As") in order to download EGDACCESS Remover.
Save it in the same folder you made earlier (c:\BFU).

3. Restart your computer in Safe Mode (http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001052409420406)

4. Open My Computer and navigate to the c:\BFU folder.
Start the Brute Force Uninstaller by doubleclicking BFU.exe
Behind the scriptline to execute field click the folder icon http://metallica.geekstogo.com/foldericon.png and select EGDACCESS.bfu
Press Execute and let the program do it’s job. (You ought to see a progress bar if you did this correctly.)
Wait for the complete script execution box to pop up and press OK.
Press exit to terminate the BFU program.

5. Reboot back to normal mode and post:
The content of the file C:\egd.txt that was created by the script.
The content of the folder bfubackups in your System(32) folder. This folder was also created by the script.
A new HijackThis log

Let me know how it's running. :)

Thanks,
tea

Tea....I'm gonna try this out for awhile and see what happens but things are looking fine.

It your posts you keep saying thanks. I am the one that needs to say thanks.

So Thank you...No matter how this ends...Thank You.

I would like to ask some questions...I have been writing them down. If you have time....Certainly no rush just gonna try to get myself smarter and maybe avoid this problem again.

In the meantime...if there is something I could do for you besides post nicely about how helpful you have been....

Hello,

So glad it's better. :bigthumb:

Please run HijackThis! and click "Scan." Place checks next to the following entries, if present:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [drevxpus] c:\windows\system32\drevxpus.exe drevxpus

Close all browsers and other windows except for HijackThis!, and click "Fix Checked".

Delete the following file, if present:

c:\windows\system32\drevxpus.exe

Reboot your computer.

Use Cleanmgr to clean temporary files:

1. Click > start > run and type cleanmgr and click OK
2. Scan your system for files to remove.
3. Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.
4. Click OK to remove those files.
5. Click Yes to confirm deletion.

Please go Here to run Panda's ActiveScan. http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm
Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button

A new window will open...click the Check Now button.
Enter your State/Providence
Enter your E-mail address and click send.
Select either Home user or Company.

Click the big Scan Now button

* If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
* It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a few minutes)

When the download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan.

When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save report and save it to a convenient location (activescan.txt to desktop).
Post the contents of the ActiveScan report, please, and a new HijackThis log.

Also please scan again with BlackLight. This stuff is nasty, and I want to be sure it's all gone. :)

Thank you!
tea

Ask any questions you like, and I'll do my best to answer them. :)

Hello,

First, I'm so very sorry for my delayed reply. I was offline unavoidably for the last few days. :(

Those logs look so much better!! Please let me know how it's running now that a few days have passed. :) Panda's online scan does disinfect viruses, just not the other things. Choosing to pay for the program is entirely up to you, but there are programs just as good for free. ;)

The following are not malware, but fixing them with HijackThis will improve your system's speed. None are necessary at startup, and may be started manually at any time. This is up to you. :)

Please run HijackThis! and click "Scan." Place checks next to the following entries, if present:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_10\bin\jusched.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UpdReg] C:\WINDOWS\UpdReg.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PCMService] "C:\Program Files\Dell\Media Experience\PCMService.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [RealTray] C:\Program Files\Real\RealPlayer\RealPlay.exe SYSTEMBOOTHIDEPLAYER
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [igfxtray] C:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxtray.exe
O4 - Global Startup: QuickBooks Update Agent.lnk = C:\Program Files\Common Files\Intuit\QuickBooks\QBUpdate\qbupdate.exe

Close all browsers and other windows except for HijackThis!, and click "Fix checked".

Reboot your computer.

In your reply, please do let me know how it's running, and feel free to ask those questions. :)

Regards,
tea
