Spy Sheriff

Hi,
I was infected with Spy Sheriff on my other computer the other day, I thought I had gotten rid of it however since then when I boot up my computer in regular or safe mode nothing shows up on my desktop. I see the wallpaper, but nothing else comes up (ie. taskbar, start menu, icons etc). The only way I am able to access anything is using the Windows Task Manager and then going into File, New Task. Is this still Spy Sheriff or is this another problem? Is there any way to fix this without having to wipe my system clean as I can't find my windows pro cd.. :(

You're infected...

One or more of the identified infections steal information. If this system is used for online banking or has credit card information on it, all passwords should be changed immediately by using a different computer (not the infected one!) to make the changes. Banking and credit card institutions, if any, should be notified of the possible security breech. I suggest that you read this (http://www.dslreports.com/faq/10451) article too.

Before we can start the cleaning I need you to do something important.

Please download and install Windows XP Service Pack 1A -> Windows XP SP1a (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/sp1/default.mspx)
NOTE! Do NOT install Service Pack 2 yet. We'll have to get you cleaned first

hi, thanks for trying to help me!!

I attempted to update my Windows XP with the security patch that you directed me to. However, when I think it is all done and installed it says that it cannot verify my Windows. Now this computer I have is older and one that was given to me from a previous workplace. I do remember them giving me some CDs with it, but I can't seem to find any of them, so I'm just not sure what to do now. Any suggestions? Is there a way we can clean it up without installing the security patch?

I'm sorry, if your windows isn't valid, I can't help any more. That might not be your fault but my (and forum) policy is that we won't help victim with illegal copy of windows. There is no point in cleaning unpatched pc's because if we could get you clean, you would get infected again.
