Hello Gary and welcome to the forum, sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
Take a look at this junk, and I can't see if it is a running program because of safe mode!

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [sysinter] C:\WINDOWS\system32\adirss.exe
http://fileinfo.prevx.com/adware/qq083a44408632-ADIR25701230/ADIRSS.EXE.html

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [run32] run32dll.exe
http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/run32dll/

and that's not all, because of the backdoor nature of these trojans, I need to give you this information.
One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan.

This allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and Download and Execute files

I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.

Though the Trojan has been identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of Trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. Please read these for more information:

How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud?
http://www.dslreports.com/faq/10451

When Should I Format, How Should I Reinstall
http://www.dslreports.com/faq/10063

However, if you do not have the resources to reinstall your computer and would like me to attempt to clean it, I will be happy to do so.
Should you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Please let us know what you have decided to do in your next post.

Thanks

PS, thanks for the information. With this being a works computer, unforatunately I don't have a real chance of format it. I'd like to try to clean if possible. I've re-started the machine in normal mode & here is a copy of the HJT log now

OK and thanks for that information. Once you have finished with whatever it is you wish to do, if you need additional help, let me know and I will see if there is anything I can do. It is your computer and I respect your decisions, but I just do not work that way.

Thanks

Just to make sure we are clear, Grisoft has two programs available right now, AVG Anti-Virus 7.5 and AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5. Unless you let me know otherwise, I will assume you just download and ran this:
Update of AVG 7.1 to 7.5. from here:
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/lng/us/tpl/v5

and that you did not download AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5

Since you are seeing Spysheriff, we will check for Smitfraud infection before doing anything else, if it is present it is best to remove it first.
From what I see in the AVG virus vault, it looks like you also have a Vundo trojan, proceed like this please:

1) My advice is to keep this computer offline except when troubleshooting, this junk will download more.

2) C:\Documents and Settings\Gary Stead\Desktop\hijackthis\HijackThis.exe <<< return to here and rename HJT to say horsehead.exe. If Vundo is present we should see the 02 BHO's and the 20's in the next HJT log.

3) Download Smitfraudfix from here: http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php <<< Download and tutorial

Follow only these directions:
Search:
Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select 1 and hit Enter to create a report of the infected files. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Be aware of this information:
process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool". It is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/processutil/processutil.htm

Restart the computer and post the C:\rapport.txt and a new HJT log. I will respond as soon as possible after you post.

Thanks

horsehead

Gary, where did you aquire all of this junk? You have a Smitfraud infection, a Vundo infection and your Smitfraudfix scan is showing a Rootkit infection:
»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»» pe386-msguard-lzx32-huy32
huy32 detected, use a Rootkit scanner

Looks like we are going to be here a while. Once I post this I will be out until evening, so will not respond until then.

1) Smitfraudfix: http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php
Clean:
Reboot your computer in Safe Mode (before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually)
Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select 2 and hit Enter to delete infect files.
You will be prompted: Do you want to clean the registry ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found): Replace infected file ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to restore a clean file.
A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Optional: To restore Trusted and Restricted site zone, select 3 and hit Enter.
You will be prompted: Restore Trusted Zone ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to delete trusted zone.
Note, if you use SpywareBlaster and/or IE-SPYAD, it will be necessary to re-install the protection both afford. For SpywareBlaster, run the program and re-protect all items. For IE-SPYAD, run the batch file and reinstall the protection.

Save the Report.txt to post at the finish of the instructions.
2) Vundofix does not always know the names of the files the hackers create, but it will learn them. You must run the fix until you see that all files it locates "Have been deleted", at that point I need to see the vundofix.txt

Thanks to Atribune and any others who helped with this fix.

Please download VundoFix.exe (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4) to your desktop
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log in a reply to this thread.Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

If there is a file VundoFix doesn't find we need it submitted. Please submit
the files to upload malware http://www.uploadmalware.com

3) Let's see if this tool will remove the rootkit infection:
* Click here to download AVG Anti Rootkit and save it to your desktop.
http://beta.grisoft.cz/beta/betarep.files/antirootkit/AVG_AntiRootkit_1.0.0.13.exe
Double-click on the AVG_AntiRootkit_1.0.0.13.exe file to run it.
Click "I Agree" to agree to the EULA.
By default it will install to "G:\Program Files\GRISOFT\AVG Anti-Rootkit Beta".
Click "Next" to begin the installation then click "Install".
It will then ask you to reboot now to finish the installation.
Click "Finish" and your computer will reboot.
After it reboots, double-click on the AVG Anti-Rootkit Beta shortcut that is now on your desktop.
Click on the "Perform in-depth search" button to begin the scan.
The scan will take a while so be patient and let it complete.

4) Please run the "Search" function only of Smitfraudfix. I wish to see if the Rootkit is gone from the report.txt.

Restart the computer and post the Report.text from Smitfraudfix "Clean" function, the Vundofix.txt, the results of the AVG Anti-Rootkit, the report.txt from the "Search" by Smitfraudfix after the Rootkit tool is run. (do not run anything else in Smitfraud) and a new HJT log.

Thanks

Thanks, I did, and I hope the same for you. Let have a look to see how you did:

SmitFraudFix v2.137
Scan done at 8:56:13.26, 30/01/2007
Run from C:\Documents and Settings\Gary Stead\Desktop\SmitfraudFix
OS: Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] - Windows_NT
The filesystem type is NTFS
Fix run in normal mode <<< instruction called for the fix to be run in Safe Mode?? If you have a reason why you can not follow directions, please make me aware of it.

This is the information from the AVG Rootkit scan& Root kit?

C:\WINDOWS\system32:huy32.sys,Hidden driver file
4) Please run the "Search" function only of Smitfraudfix. I wish to see if the Rootkit is gone from the report.txt.Unless I am missing something, I do not see this C:\Report.txt? I would like to see a report of Smitfraud fix "Search" ONLY run after the Rootkit was removed by AVG? Would you run a quick search and post that report please.

Thanks for returning that information, looks like the Rootkit tool removed the bad item. Considering what you know about these infections, I see no malware in the reports and would say you are good to go. Let's finish up like this.

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001111912274039?Open&src=sec_doc_nam

AVG Anti-Spyware is a good program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.

Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:
