Have reviwed the forum posts relevant to the virus that redirects to 85.255.113.134. My understanding is that I should run:

1. Wareout program
2. Then run hijackthis
3. Post logs on this thread
4. Since I have up to 3 PC's infected, I should post seperate threads

I see PSKelley and tashi have experience with this. I'll be posting around 6 PM CST February 1. Would really appreciate you review as I have been battling for a couple of days now.

Regards,

Welcome to the forum, Just a little information before I post the instructions. Very important is this information:
"BEFORE you POST" -Preliminary Steps
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
Often the information in the free online scan shows problems we can not see with HJT. I also appreciate the Blacklight log, and we may need to use Blacklight again to remove what it found, but the tool we use which is created by one of our own, is called Fixwareout and it should kill the bad file. Let's proceed like this.

Here is a look at the Ukrainian hacker if you would like to see:
http://whois.domaintools.com/85.255.113.134

Before we start, you have a problem, read about it:
You are running two antivirus programs at the same time and this is not a good thing. They conflict with each other and you will be less safe than if you ran one good program and maintained it properly.
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/docid/2000031316555206
"Microsoft recommends that you have only one anti-virus program installed on your computer."
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/12/03/AR2005120300087.html

C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus
C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\

1) Thanks to LonnyBJones and anyone else who helped with this fix.
Download Fixwareout from here: http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
or here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
Once the desktop loads post the text that will open (report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log in the forum please.

(save the report and log until we finish)

2) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.

3) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

4) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

(first item: file missing, not working right if at all)
O2 - BHO: ToolHelper - {EDC0F17F-F4B7-47e4-B73E-887FAEB376FA} - C:\PROGRA~1\Upromise\UPROMI~1.DLL (file missing)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)
(next: unless you know what it is, remove it)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ms driver] zonelockup.exe
O16 - DPF: {34805D32-AD89-469E-8503-A5666AEE4333} (RdxIE Class) - http://207.188.7.150/182af89998fde33...tzip/RdxIE.cab
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{48FFFB2F-E7AD-432C-B71E-4064969CD046}: NameServer = 85.255.113.134,85.255.112.104
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{8EDB1D78-79FD-45D9-8687-6D3DB68C1F5F}: NameServer = 85.255.113.134,85.255.112.104
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.113.134 85.255.112.104

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

5) RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

(search for and delete that file unless you know what it is)

zonelockup.exe <<< delete this file

6) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart the computer and post the report.txt from Fixwareout, a new HJT log and any comments you think will help.
Let me know how the computer is running, and please be sure I am looking at one antivirus program.

Thanks

Because this malware is redirecting my browser, I have not been able to run online scans as suggested. A friend suggested the following procedure as workaround. Should I do it?

To fix the redirection (temporarily - likely until reboot):
1. On control panel, select network connections
2. Right click on local area network connections
3. Go to properties,*click on*TCP/IP tab
4. Click Obtain DNS automatically
5. You can also enter 216.165.129.157 and 216.170.153.146 manually.
The settings may reset on reboot, but this should get you browsing for now . . I'm trying to see what virus/rootkit actually changed it to those servers.

Please follow the instruction I posted. Do not attempt to do online scans at this point.

I can post this information but it is normally not needed. So...if you do not need it, ignore it.

Note:

If You have connection problems or those 017's ~ 85.255.113.90 85.255.112.5, return >
Before doing this write down all the settings, Note that not all system/setups even have these settings, While some connection service's will require them.
In the windows control panel. If you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category otherwise double click on Network Connections. Then right click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl, and left click on properties.
Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS servers automatically
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks.
Do that for every connection listed.

Thanks

Restart the computer and post the report.txt from Fixwareout, a new HJT log and any comments you think will help.
Let me know how the computer is running, and please be sure I am looking at one antivirus program.

Please post the report.txt from Fixwareout as requested.
