Hi, welcome to Safer Networking Forums!

*I see you are running 2 antivirus applications at the same time. Please uninstall your other antivirus and only keep 1. Not only will 2 or more AV's slow down your pc's performance but it reduces your overall system security at the same time. Use Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel to uninstall the Antivirus that you don't want to keep.

Reboot after uninstalling

If you will uninstall Norton, use this tool HERE (http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039?Open&src=&docid=2001092114452606&nsf=nav.nsf&view=docid&dtype=&prod=&ver=&osv=&osv_lvl=) to make sure that no leftovers of the AntiVirus will be left..

*You have executed HijackThis directly from the zip file which means that the backups that it makes will not be saved. We need to extract Hijackthis.

To move Hijackthis:

Double-click your HijackThis.zip file and a window will open showing the HijackThis file. On the left pane, click on the link that says Extract all files.
The Extraction Wizard will open, click on Browse.
This will take you to a Select a Destination Window. Click on the (+) sign beside My computer and when it collapses, click C:\ to highlight it.
Click on Make New Folder. You can name your folder HJT or hijackthis or whatever you want, then click OK
The Hijackthis program will extract to your new folder and you will see the Extraction Complete window. Put a checkmark in the Show extracted files box and then click Finish.
The HijackThis folder will open to show the HijackThis program.

You can run hijackthis from its new location but if you find it more convenient to run it from your desktop, right-click HijackThis.exe and select Send To from the options and then choose Desktop (create shortcut).

*Did you install a program called WinPcap? Also did you install a program called SmartProtector-Pro? Do you know anything or did you install a program called filtercodecpack in your system?

*It is possible that some of the entries are hiding from us, so please rename HijackThis.exe to something like angelfire777.exe

*Please download VundoFix.exe (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4) to your Desktop.
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES.
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.

*Download SDFix (http://downloads.andymanchesta.com/RemovalTools/SDFix.exe) and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
Choose your usual account.

Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log

*I would like you to scan a few files for me.

Please go HERE (http://virusscan.jotti.org/). Click browse then, navigate to this file:

C:\Program Files\filtercodecpack\filtres\qt\QTSystem\qttask.exe

Then click submit.

Please post the results to your next reply.

If Jotti is too busy, you can go HERE (www.virustotal.com) and do the same as above.

On your next reply, please include a fresh HijackThis log, Vundofix log and the SDFix log.

*Did you use the tool that would clean Norton leftovers?

*A few optionals that I would recommend be uninstalled.

LimeWire
This program is very likely the reason your system is infested with malware. Even when a program like this is not infected itself, it will still bring malware into your system because more than half of all files available for download from peer-to-peer networks have been deliberately infected with some form of malware. I recommend that you remove this program from your system.

*Click Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs and uninstall the items I listed in bold if found.

*Reboot

*Download Dr.Web CureIt to the desktop:
ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/drweb-cureit.exe

do not use it yet.

*Open HijackThis > choose Scan Only > Place a checkmark in the boxes beside these entries in bold.

________________________
Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and Allow to run the express scan
This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
Once the short scan has finished, Click Options > Change settings
Choose the "Scan"-tab, remove the mark at "Heuristic analysis".
Back at the main window, mark the drives that you want to scan.
Select all drives. A red dot shows which drives have been chosen.
Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start.
Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
When the scan has finished, look if you can click next icon next to the files found:
http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miekiemoes/images/check.gif
If so, click it and then click the next icon right below and select Move incurable as you'll see in next image:
http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miekiemoes/images/move.gif
This will move it to the %userprofile%\DoctorWeb\quarantaine-folder if it can't be cured. (this in case if we need samples)
After selecting, in the Dr.Web CureIt menu on top, click file and choose save report list
Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
Close Dr.Web Cureit.
Reboot your computer!! Because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web you saved previously in your next reply

On your next reply, please post the a fresh HijackThis log, CureIT log and a description on how your machine is running.

i don't seem to have any popups for the time being.. BUT my windows XP bar still takes about 35 times until it moves to the next screen :S
and even when my computer is in windows.. it seems to be going MUCH slower than before. and sometimes when i watch things in windows media player, it pauses and then skips straight to the scene it should be on.
thanks for your replies so far. it has helped alot already

Let's check some more :)

Download combofix.exe (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/combofix.exe)

1. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
2. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

___________________________

1.) Create a folder in the root of your C: drive and name it Blacklight.
A brief explanation of how to do this can be found HERE. (http://russelltexas.com/malware/createhjtfolder.htm)

2.) Download F-Secure's BlackLight from HERE (https://www.europe.f-secure.com/blacklight/try.shtml) and save it into the folder you just created.

3.) Log off from the internet and disconnect your modem cable.

4.) Go to Start > Run, copy and paste the following into the Text Box and hit OK:
"C:\Blacklight\blbeta.exe" /expert

The F-Secure Blacklight Beta window should open. Accept the agreement and click OK.
Click the Scan button to begin.
Leave the PC idle while the scan takes place.
When it has completed, click the Close button.
A text file, fsbl-date/time, will be saved in the Blacklight folder, copy and paste this into your next post.

On your next reply, please post a fresh HijackThis log, blacklight log and the combofix log

*Do you have Kaspersky Antivirus and Norton Antivirus in your system?

*Uninstall the following items:

DriveCleaner
IPwindows

*An optional that I would recommend be uninstalled.

Shareaza
This program is very likely the reason your system is infested with malware. Even when a program like this is not infected itself, it will still bring malware into your system because more than half of all files available for download from peer-to-peer networks have been deliberately infected with some form of malware. I recommend that you remove this program from your system.

*Click Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs and uninstall the items I listed in bold if found.

*Reboot

______________________________

Configure your machine to view hidden files:

Windows XP
Click Start.
Open My Computer..
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab.
Under the "Hidden files and folders" heading select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck the Hide Protected Operating System Files Option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.

*Using Windows Explorer, find and delete these files:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\wnsintcc.exe

delete the following folders:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\DriveCleaner Free
C:\Program Files\DriveCleaner Free
C:\Program Files\Ipwindows

delete the following folders if you uninstalled shareaza:

C:\Program Files\Shareaza
C:\DOCUMEnts and settings\Vincent\Application Data\Shareaza

Empty your Recycle bin.

Ok, thanks for telling me :)

have u ever had a case like this before?

Yes but I usually redirect them to a troubleshooting site but yours looks like the work of malware, actually, kind of an "aftermath." When I confirm that you are really clean, I'll redirect you to a troubleshooting site. Although your log already looks clean, let's try to dig some more.. Oh and by the way, did the slowness start when you were infected?

Oh and by the way, did the slowness start when you were infected?

i'm not actually that sure, because i barely turn off my computer, i usually put it into standby because even when my computer was running fine, i STILL hated the slowness of the booting up. lol :(

Angelfire777
2007-02-10, 02:48
It is possible that your machine needs an upgrade..Your bootlog looks good :bigthumb:

Please post a fresh HijackThis log for final checkup then I'll redirect you to another site.

kevinwu128

i probably do need an upgrade :S . coz everything runs fine now, i don't get pop ups or any spyware when i run ad aware and spybot search and destroy
it's only the stupid bootup :(

Register here: www.pcpitstop.com

and run some tests..If you have questions regarding the results of the test, post it in the appropriate thread there.

Congrats! Everything seems well now! (malware speaking)

Configure Windows Xp to hide system files:

Click Start.
Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab.
Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Do not show hidden files and folders.
Check the Hide protected operating system files option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.

This is a good time to clear your existing system restore points and establish a new clean restore point:
Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

Select Create a restore point, and Ok it.

Next, go to Start > Run and type in cleanmgr

Select the More options tab

Choose the option to clean up system restore and OK it.

This will remove all restore points except the new one you just created.

Here are some free programs I recommend that could help you improve your pc's security.

Firewall Application - Although Windows Xp comes with a firewall, you should not rely on it because the Windows Firewall can only filter incoming data; outgoing traffic is not controlled, meaning that malware/viruses that are present in your computer can access the internet with no restrictions. There are several other Firewall that can protect you better by filtering incoming and outgoing data. Make sure you get only one of these.

» ZoneAlarm (http://www.zonelabs.com)
» Kerio (http://http//www.sunbelt-software.com/Kerio-Download.cfm)

Install SpyWare Blaster
~You can download it from here (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html)
~You can read the tutorial on how to use Spyware Blaster here (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial49.html)

Install WinPatrol
~You can download it from here (http://www.winpatrol.com/download.html)
~You can get some information about how WinPatrol works here (http://www.winpatrol.com/features.html)

IESpyAds
~You can download it from here (http://www.spywarewarrior.com/uiuc/resource.htm#IESPYAD)
~If you want to know how IEspyads work you can take a look at it here (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial53.html)
~Please note that IESpyAds only works with Internet Explorer.

Note: Make sure you update your Antivirus programs and other security products regularly to avoid new threats that could infect your system.

Please check out Tony Klein's article "How did I get infected in the first place?" (http://castlecops.com/t7736-So_how_did_I_get_infected_in_the_first_place.html)

Happy safe surfing!
