Hi again, on my yearly problem. I am so pleased you are here, I shall make another donation for all the help I have had in the past.
I have an EXTREMELY slow PC, so slow, typing or moving the mouse is very very frustrating. I also have detected "slowdowncpu.exe"on my pc.

I see that you are running msconfig in /auto mode which means that you may have selectively removed some items in the past from the startup procedure.
This can be bad if they are malware, so we would like you to reenable those startup entries by doing the following:
Please click on start, then run, and type msconfig and then press enter.
When the window opens click on the startup tab and make sure there are checkmarks in every entry.
Then press ok until you are out of the program.
Then go here and update to SP1, you are missing to many security updates.

unfortunately I have a copied CD of windows, as it is only sold in Spain with new PCs. Still trying to find the way to buy a licence for it. But last year I had the same problems, and I had to upgrade to SP2, I'm surprised now I don't even have SP1.
Can I continue like this, despite these security patches?

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

And use firefox since you can not install the updates :lip:
Great, thank you very much. I still however seem to go through episodes of extreme slowness I'll have to investigate why.

One of the best features of Windows XP is the System Restore option, however if a virus or spyware infection.
There can be backups made in the System Restore folder.
Therefore, clearing the restore points is necessary after a virus or spyware removal.
To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account
which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because
you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.
1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
2. Reboot.
3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
