I have a site (fsgenesis.net) that I am a member of. It has large (1G +) files - data files for flight simulators - that I am trying to download. The downloads always fail - often after having downloaded 1.5 or more G! I have spent 3-5G of download bandwidth, and STILL do not have a working file.

I would like to try a download manager - with resumable, multi threaded download support, but I am very, very leery of installing ANY software like this, due to the presence of malware. Does anyone have any recommendations as to a SAFE download manager I can use? Is 'Free Download Accelerator' clean, or am I installing rootkits/BSV/spyware with it.

I am very paranoid now, as the last time I got infected like this, it cost me the physical computer - I killed it trying to disinfect it!

Please help!!

Welcome to the forum, I personally do not recomend them at all, considering them just another resource waster and in my lowly opinion, Windows XP handles downloads fine. Here is what the folks at Spybot S&D think about the subject.

And some expert advice to help you with that paranoia:
Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:
