View Full Version : Constantly getting new trojans
Hi.
I downloaded a keygenerator executable from a very suspicious site and opened it...
Now I'm getting constantly connection attemps from almost EVERY program to unknown IP and Avast announces new trojans. I ran AdAware, Spybot and Windows Defender several times and deleted everything they found and no help.. So could someone please tell me what to do, I really don't want do format my hard drive..
Here's my HJT log:

There also this dialer program starting every now and then that shows in system tray and tries to use my modem. I can close it by clicking it but is shows up again after a while.
Also programs called like win188.tmp.exe called "Universa Application" try to open connections, but Kerio blocks them. It says: "'Universa Application' from your computer wants to connect to 89.188.16.18, port 80"
Also Kerio says for example that Firefox want's to connect to localhost and if I allow it (tried once) a hell breaks loose and about 5 trojan announcments comes from Avast.
I run Avast boot time scan and it found nothing and all the spyware programs I mentioned with no help.
I really hope you could help me.
Some updates:
After Avast's yesterday's update, it can now find at least some of the viruses. I did a boot-time scan and it says it removed 11 of them. I ran also F-secure's online scanner, which found 31 viruses the first time and it says it removed them. But I've ran it now four times and it still finds the same viruses and says that it removes them.. Now on the fifth time it finds 14 viruses.
So the dialer is now gone, but I'm still getting those weird connection attemps from running programs, so there must be still something.
Is this some new virus that no program can yet remove? Could it have done some damage to my computer already? I hope someone could help.
Here's the F-secures log, and below that the Hijack This's new log:

Thanks for the help so far, I really appreciate it!
Could you recommend me a better free antivirus software? Or some other good software that would prevent this from happening again? Well, I know I shouldn't have downloaded that keygenerator, but shouldn't an antivirus program warn me about such things?
I did everything as you adviced.
v6.exe was named V6.0XE, so I removed that one.
VundoFix found nothing.

hi kmkmkm,
good, thanks for all the info. theres nothing wrong with AVAST, its antivirus software and may not flag all the other stuff like trojans or dialers. the best thing to do is understand how this stuff gets on your computer, then you will understand prevention. you already know how you got it, many cracks keygens etc are nothing but trojans.
-------------------
lets do all this in safe mode this time: you might want to copy/paste this part into notepad and save it so you can read it in safe mode
to reach safe mode you would tap the f8 key during a computer reboot. chose the first option safe mode.
once in safe mode:
run avg antispyware again,
and:
using explorer(right click on start>explore) drill down to these >you want to delete whats >inside< the folder, not the folder itself<
C:\Windows\Temp\
C:\Documents and Settings\-Your Profile-\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\ (will dump all your cached internet content including cookies)
C:\Documents and Settings\-Your Profile-\Local Settings\Temp\
C:\Documents and Settings\-Any other users Profile-\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\
C:\Documents and Settings\-Any other users Profile-\Local Settings\Temp\
------------------------------
reboot normally post another hjt log please.
shelf life
I deleted the files you adviced in safe mode (and emptied recycle bin ;)). I didn't have the time to wait AVG to finish, since it took 2 hours and 15 to get half way through, which took 15 minutes in normal mode.. So I ran it in normal mode and it found nothing. So do you think it's really necessary to do it in safe mode? F-Secure finds nothing now! (Well it found one tracking cookie, but I guess that's not so bad :))
There was though one file in folder C:\WINDOWS\Temp\hsperfdata_SYSTEM which I couldn't remove in safe mode, but it's gone now.
So am I clean now?
Thank you so much for your help! Keep on the good work!

hi kmkmkm,
good. dont worry about running avg in safe mode, i think cleaning out the temps took care of everything. the idea behind safe mode is that some crap can be removed easier since its not "resident" like in normal mode.
i think you are good to go now. you have both windows defender and avg. both have real time components that run in the backround. i wouldnt keep both active at the same time, only use one. AVG is a trial version and after 30 days unless you buy it the real time protection or guard as its called becomes disabled, but you can still keep it updated and scan with it.
one more thing to do is make new clean restore points, as crap can get archived in the points. to do this:
These instructions assume that you are using the default Windows XP Start Menu and have not changed to the Classic Start menu. To re-enable the default menu, right-click Start, click Properties, click Start menu (not Classic) and then click OK.
1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
2. Reboot. (will delete possibly infected restore points)
3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
4. Reboot (new clean restore point)
