Hey folks!

When I last scanned my PC with Spybot S&D it told me my computer is infected with two trojans: Torpig (c:\windows\kl.exe) and Smitfraud-C. (c:\windows\tool2.exe). Unfortunately I can't get rid of them ever after rebooting with Spybot S&D. I've read that other people have quoted their logs generated by Hijackthis. I've just downloaded this program and hope you can help me with my problem by showing you the logfile. Thanks a lot in advance! Here's the report:

Is your Spybot up to date? Version 1.4 and updates to 2/14/2007?

I just don't see them in this HJT log, here is where you said they are:
c:\windows\kl.exe and c:\windows\tool2.exe did you look there? If they are there scan them with this tool:
http://virusscan.jotti.org/ if they scan bad delete them.

Follow the instructions in this link, make sure you delete or a least quarantine anything found and save the scan report.

Restart the computer and post the scan report, a new HJT log and any information I requested. Add any comments you think will help.

Thanks for answering!

I've done several things although it seems that they won't fix the problem.

1. copied hijackthis into a stationary folder
2. started windows in safe mode and ran spybots&d to try deleting those trojans that way - it didn't work out though as it told me that it couldn't delete them.
3. I ran panda online scan - an error occured (even though I enabled all activex elements in my ie7)
4. virusscan.jotti.org couldn't upload my infected files (it says a firewall blocks the transmission even though I uninstalled my firewall in order to fix that particular problem - no success)
5. installed and ran avg-antispyware... it didn't find the stuff spybots&d told me I am infected with. I'll give you the report and a fresh hjtlog.

OK, thanks for the feedback, it won't be the first time malware has blocked us from using tools (unless there is another reason)

It looks like AVG Anti-Spyware cleaned the cookies it found. The HJT log looks clean also, as far as my non-existant German goes.

1. I have deleted kl.exe and tool.exe by applying the hjt-deleting while booting-function.
2. In the Spybot S&D-scan afterwards Torpig and Smitfraud-C. did NOT appear :-)

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:

AVG Anti-Spyware is a good program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.
