I recently started using Firefox 2.0 in addition to IE 6.x. Since that time, I notice that I am getting a lot more spyware detected by Spybot during my scans. Is Spybot not detecting and blocking things in real-time on Firefox that it might be blocking on IE? Is there something I need to enable in Spybot to ensure it is providing real-time blocking on both IE and Firefox?

For the time being, I've stopped using Firefox until I can ensure that it is protected as well as IE, and I've also turned on the advanced mode so I could schedule a daily scan. At least Spybot seems to be finding the malware, but I'd feel better if I knew that the stuff coming from Firefox was being blocked actively, rather than waiting for me to run a scan.

MAJ_JBM:

Spybot has two types of passive protection, Spybot's immunization process and Spybot's resident "SDHelper" BHO (Browser Helper Object) a.k.a. Internet Explorer bad download blocker. Both of these protections only work with Internet Explorer.

That does not necessarily mean that your system is compromised by using Firefox just because you are "… getting a lot more spyware detected by Spybot during my scans". If the additional "spyware" that is being detected are tracking cookies, than it may not be a real problem.

Can you be more specific as to the type of detections (problems) that were being identified while you were using Firefox?

Note: By default here are two Checks.yymmdd-hhmm logs produced during a scan. The second Checks.yymmdd-hhmm has the details of what the scan found. A Fixes.yymmdd-hhmm log is produced if you fix or attempt to fix something.

There are two methods to review and optionally post the logs from previous runnings of Spybot's "Check for problems" and/or "Fix selected problems":
Method 1:
Go into Spybot > Mode > Advanced mode > Tools > View Reports > View Pervious reports. Look for the Checks.yymmdd-hhmm or Fixes.yymmdd-hhmm from when you detected the problems. Open it. Right click > Select all. Right click > Copy. Paste (Ctrl+V) to the post.
Method 2
The Checks.yymmdd-hhmm and Fixes.yymmdd-hhmm files are stored in the following folders:
Windows 95 or 98:
C:\Windows\Application Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Logs
Windows ME:
C:\Windows\All Users\Application Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Logs
Windows NT, 2000 or XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Logs
Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the correct Checks.yymmdd-hhmm or Fixes.yymmdd-hhmm file. Double click on it and it should open with Notepad. Copy and paste (Ctrl+V) into a post.

Thanks for the explanation. I'll get a log of my next scan and get details.

MAJ_JBM:

If you are going to post the log from the next scan the easiest way to do that:
Run another scan or scan/fix.
When the scan or scan/fix completes, right click on the results list, select "Copy results to clipboard".
Then paste (Ctrl+V) those results to a new post in this thread.
