This is the last of my 2 logs...can you please help me get rid of ctfmon32.exe and completely clean my system...

HI Nebul0us and welcome to the Forums :)

Sorry for the long delay. Why do you think that you're infected with ctfmon32.exe ?

Please post a fresh Hijackthis log to here if you still need help :bigthumb:

hi Mr_JAk3, thanks for your help. I no longer believe I'm infected with ctfmon32.exe, i think it is a false positive. however, i do want to make sure my sytem is totally clean. I found a startup entry with spybot about a week ago that said...

Current filename:

Database status: Not required - virus, spyware, malware or other resource hog
Value:
Filename: system32.exe

Description
Added by the _AGOBOT-KU_ WORM! Note - has a blank entry under the Startup Item/Name field

Source: Paul Collins Startup list

I have since found info suggesting that this is a harmless entry from Adobe Acrobat 7 installation. Do you know if this this correct? Also, how do I clean my system of all the spyware that panda online scanner found? It found like 76 forms of spyware i think. I believe they were all cookies. So can I get rid of them by just deleting all my cookies? and should i not allow most cookies in the future to keep my sytem clean? Can you check my panda online scan log and confirm what i just told you? Oh and what's wrong with my old HijackThis log? Thanks for your help I really appreciate it. Im on lunch right now so I can't run another HijackThis log until later, but why is it needed if you don't mind me asking?

Hi :)

The location of the file is important. Many baddies use same filenames as windows components. Please see this -> Link (http://www.castlecops.com/s795-ctfmon_exe.html)

Your old HijackThis log is more than a week old. Mny things can change in a week. This is why I would like to see a fresh HijackThis log.

Hi again, I see something that we'll remove.

You should print these instructions or save these to a text file. Follow these instructions carefully.

Please download AVG Anti-Spyware to your Desktop or to your usual Download Folder.
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Install AVG Anti-Spyware by double clicking the installer.
Follow the prompts. Make sure that Launch AVG Anti-Spyware is checked.
On the main screen under Your Computer's security.
Click on Change state next to Resident shield. It should now change to inactive.
Click on Change state next to Automatic updates. It should now change to inactive.
Next to Last Update, click on Update now. (You will need an active internet connection to perform this)
Wait until you see the Update succesfull message.
Right-click the AVG Anti-Spyware Tray Icon and uncheck Start with Windows.
Right-click the AVG Anti-Spyware Tray Icon and select Exit. Confirm by clicking Yes.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
AVG Anti-Spyware manual updates (http://www.ewido.net/en/download/updates/).
Download the Full database to your Desktop or to your usual Download Folder and install it by double clicking the file. Make sure that AVG Anti-Spyware is closed before installing the update.

Download ATF Cleaner (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=1) by Atribune to your desktop.
Do NOT run yet.

At first you need to disable a few realtime protections. These may interfere with our cleaning process.
We'll enable these when you're clean...

Disable Spybot S&D Teatimer.
Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode
If it is not already set to do this, go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"

hi :)
sorry about the delay i've been very busy but i know you are too.
I really appreciate your help. You da man! lol. :bigthumb:
When were done here what programs do you recommend for security? I use Zone Labs Firewall, Windows Live OneCare for virus protection, and SpyBot for malware protection. I like Windows Live OneCare over Norton and McAfee because it uses a lot less resources to run in the background. But I know it's not the best. I've heard good things about Kespersky Virus scanner. Is AVG better than Ad-aware or SpyBot??? I would love your feedback on these subjects, but anyways...back to business. Here are my logs...

Hi again, it is looking clean now :)

You can use several Anti-Spyware programs, they won't conflict...ZoneAlarm is a good firewall.

Now you can clean AVG's Quarantine:
Open AVG Anti-Spyware
Click Infections
Click Quarantine tab
Click Select all
Click Remove finally
Close the program
=============

Now that you seem to be clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
Clear your system restore (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/tips/mcgill1.mspx)
This will clear the system restore folders from possible malware that was left behind during the cleaning process.

Use ATF Cleaner (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=1)
Download and install ATF Cleaner. Clean your temporary files & folders with it regularly.

Use Ad-Aware (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/?showtutorial=48)
Download and install Ad-Aware. Update it and scan your computer regularly with it.

Use AVG Anti-Spyware (http://www.ewido.net/en/)
Update it and scan your computer regularly with it.

Use Spybot S&D (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/?showtutorial=43)
Download and install Spybot S&D. Update it and scan your computer regularly with it.

Install SpywareBlaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html)
SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.

Install MVPS Hosts file (http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm)
This prevents your computer from connecting to harmful sites.

Use Firefox browser (http://www.mozilla.org)
Firefox is faster, safer and better browser than Internet Explorer.

Keep your systen up-to-date (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com)
Visit Windows Update regularly.

Read this article by TonyKlein (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=279)
So how did I get infected in the first place?

Stand Up and Be Counted ! (http://www.malwarecomplaints.info/index.php)
The site offers people who have been (or are) victims of malware the opportunity to document their story and, in that way, launch a complaint against the malware and the makers of the malware.

Stay clean and be safe ;)
