View Full Version : "Warning: your computer may have critical errors" popup

Recently, I've been having a recurring problem with popup windows appearing titled "windows integrity scan wizard" or "malicious software removal wizard". It's my understanding these are caused by some form of malware.

Another problem, which may be totally unconnected (and not necessarily malware at all), is that my keyboard and mouse have an occasional tendency to suddenly stop responding, requiring a reboot.

My online scan log is:

Welcome to the forum and sorry for the wait, this is new junk for me so we will learn it together. There may be hidden junk also, let's proceed like this.

1) Move HJT from the Desktop for safety. I prefer C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe, if you need additional instructions use these: http://russelltexas.com/malware/createhjtfolder.htm

2) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.

3) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

4) We need to disable your Windows Defender Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.
Open Windows Defender, Click on Tools, General Settings.
Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
After you uncheck this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.
After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

5) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {4E19DB4A-5438-40BD-FD73-06080C4FB006} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\qzmpzpd.dll (file missing)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [tcqdkqg.dll] C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe "C:\Documents and Settings\Gidi\Local Settings\Application Data\tcqdkqg.dll",cuygwxc
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [igndlm.exe] C:\Program Files\IGN\Download Manager\DLM.exe /windowsstart /startifwork
O20 - Winlogon Notify: winrkp32 - winrkp32.dll (file missing)

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

6) RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\Documents and Settings\Gidi\Local Settings\Application Data\tcqdkqg.dll <<< delete that file

C:\Program Files\IGN\ <<< delete that folder

6) You have AVG Anti-Spyware onboard, follow the instruction in this link. Make sure you delete or at least quarantine anything it finds and save the scan report to post.
http://forums.security-central.us/showthread.php?t=3165

7) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart the computer and post the scan results from AVG, a new HJT log and any comments you think will help. How is the computer running now?

Thanks

Since I last posted (a few hours ago), the computer has crashed completely  (apparently due to a unrelated hardware issue), so this thread might as well be tabled. I'll post a new thread if the problem recurs after we repair/replace the machine. Thx anyway
