Computer going slow

A couple of months ago our computer crashed. A computer friend restored our files etc. However, since then the computer seems to be going slow. This is unusual, as it's usually a nippy computer. I'm afraid we may have viruses which are not being picked up by spybot and symantec. I followed your instruction regarding the Panda online scan and Hijack this. I hope you can help.

Welcome to the forum, you have this issue: You are running two antivirus programs at the same time and this is not a good thing. They conflict with each other and you will be less safe than if you ran one good program and maintained it properly. Uninstall one, update the one you keep and run a complete system scan removing anything located.

Your Java program needs an update, download the newest version and make sure you uninstall all old versions in Add Remove programs:

Besides that your HJT log appears clean of malware as does the AVG Anti-Spyware scan. I suggest you do this:

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:

AVG Anti-Spyware is a good program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.

I did all you said, except System Restore. I began to start, then got cold feet as I don't understand enough. Do I put it ON or OFF?. There is also a warning about being unable to undo things and that worried me. Can you advise?:red:

So you will understand, System Restore is a tool that can be used to restore your computer to an earlier time.

System Restore makes these time points that you can restore to. It does not know good from bad, so it also backs up the bad stuff when you are infected. If you have a problem and need to use System Restore, those bad files come along with the good ones during the restore. By turning System Restore off, you purge all restore points and then when you turn it back on it makes a fresh restore point clean of any bad stuff so you can safely use it in an emergency.

Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Reboot

Turn ON System Restore,
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
