View Full Version : OwlforceB/Smitfraud and...I'm lost!
Here's the back story. I needed to make a memory edit for a game (Gunz Online, North American Version) so I could play it. In order to do so, I needed to stop the GameGuard process from making a registry change erasing the change I had made. The only program allowing me to prevent such registry changes was ProcessGuard (PSGuard I believe it might have been...). I proceeded to use it, and it worked like a charm; however, in order for me to use the 'remember' (or something along those lines) feature, I needed to have purchased the program. I don't believe this is the program mentioned by the Smitfraud protocol, because this was a legitimate program mentioned on other forums and such, also, you didn't need to buy it specifically. After downloading a crack for it (Yes, I'm foolish, scold me) and scanning it with Avast!, I opened it when OwlforceB kicked into gear. Instantly, it began creating files on my desktop, 010, 011, 012, 013, and so on, endlessly. Then a message box came up saying "SENT", and my Internet Explorer (not Mozilla Firefox though) homepage had been changed to C:\Secure32.html, which had a dark blue page saying "WHAT THEY KNOW" and stuff like that.
Now, I found the registry key using HijackThis, and proceeded to remove it, but, that registry key continues to be changed! As I am writing this, Spybot is preventing the registry key from being written, I don't know what's writing it!
So, without further background story, let me detail my problems, then post my HijackThis log.
Problems:
Internet going really slow
Running "ipconfig" /release under the command prompt increases CPU to 100%, causing me to restart my computer
Internet Explorer Options Unavailable
Something constantly changing a registry key to C:\secure32.html
The thing is, when I restored C:\secure32.html intentionally, the content for that page was recreated. Upon running Spybot, Ad-Aware, Avast!, the following things were detected:
-Smitfraud-C. (registry change, nothing affected)
-CoolWWW.CADW (deleted NUMEROUS times)
-Tracking Cookies
-Agent-EMW [Trj]
Now, I believe these files put themselves in system restore; however, yesterday (also the time of those scans), I shut it off, thus deleting all restore points.
Here is my HijackThis (v1.99.1) log:

I am unable to access Internet Options through Internet Explorer, although I think I might have done that through Spybot, I am unsure.
Also, since Spybot is constantly preventing registry key changes, I can't really access it very well.
What's causing this? And why is my internet (compared to those in my house) going at Dial-Up speed? (I have Broadband)
Thank you for your time, if there is anything else required, I will try to present it.
P.S. This is my first visit here, and I am head over heels over Spybot. :D
I hope it is okay to double post, if it isn't, I'm sorry! :)
After searching for "c:\secure32.html", I found information that corroberated what I already felt.
I ran the following programs:
Security Task Manager (type in the name of a process in Google, and a site similar to neuber should come up, it's a process info site)
RegMon (Sysinternals)
I have a feeling that my autosys.exe file has been compromised, and that is the reason for my internet constantly changing it's homepage to c:\secure32.html.
But why is my internet going slower than a very slow snail? I unplugged my computer from the internet already, not that it made a difference anyway, my speed was disgusting.
If it would be possible, perhaps one of the "1337" experts out there could provide me more customized information based on my log.
I have already downloaded SmitfraudFix.
Here are my protection utilities:
ZoneAlarm Firewall (Free)
Avast!
SpywareBlaster
Ad-Aware Personal 6 SE
Spybot Search & Destroy
Security Task Manager
RegMon (Registry Monitor - Sysinternals)
I am typing this from my laptop.
Thanks again!
Sorry to bump again, but I have new logs to report, as of today.
After browsing the SWI forums (thanks to a c:\secure32.html search on google), I came up with several solutions, and I think I've stopped the recreation of the c:\secure32.html problem. However, I'd like to be sure is all.
I've run Ad-Aware (6 SE Personal) and nothing was found.
I've run Spybot and nothing was found (CoolWWW is gone...)
I haven't run Avast! yet.
Here is an updated log from HijackThis, and from SDFix.

Hi Lloyd and welcome to the Forums :)
You might have a rootkit infection there..
Download RustBFix from one of the following locations...
http://www.uploads.ejvindh.net/rustbfix.exe
http://uploads.ejvindh.andymanchesta.com/Rustbfix.exe
...and save it to your desktop.
Double click on rustbfix.exe to run the tool. If a Rustock.b-infection is found, you will shortly hereafter be asked to reboot the computer. The reboot will probably take quite a while, and perhaps 2 reboots will be needed. But this will happen automatically. After the reboot 2 logfiles will open (%root%\avenger.txt & %root%\rustbfix\pelog.txt). Post the content of these logfiles along with a new HijackThis log.
:bigthumb:
Here is my pelog, unfortunately, the avenger folder was entirely empty. =/

Thanks.
Kaspersky told me that a file named mszsrn32.dll in my system32 directory isn't a valid file, which fits perfectly because no information was found about it, and it's creation date was the 14th of February, as opposed to all other files there being on 05/31/06.
I can't delete it though. =(
I found my avenger log, sorry! I read the wrong place!

I've done more research on the mszrsn32.dll file.
It drops the following registry keys:
# Added the following registry:
* key: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\mszsrn32
* value: DllName
* data: c:\system\mszsrn32.dll
# Added the following registry:
* key: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\mszsrn32
* value: Startup
* data: Startup
# Added the following registry:
* key: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\mszsrn32
* value: Asynchronous
* data: 1
# Added the following registry:
* key: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\mszsrn32
* value: Impersonate
* data: 0
# Added the following registry:
* key: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\mszsrn32
* value: Type
* data: 2
The file added is under "C:\WINDOWS\system32\mszrsn32.dll" and it has the following side effects:
* Allows others to access the computer
* Sends itself to email addresses found on the infected computer
* Steals information
* Drops more malware
* Uses its own emailing engine
* Reduces system security
* Installs itself in the Registry
I'm planning on using Unlocker Assistant and removing it's registry entries (after a backup), then deleting the file itself.
I don't know what exactly is causing my internet to go slow, suggestions?
Also, would it be advisable to install Deep Freeze on the computer after I get rid of this infection?
Oh, and if an expert finds more problems based on my log, like all those things mentioned by the Kaspersky report, please advise, I'm somewhat lost as to how to proceed.
Thank you.

So how did I get infected in the first place?
Stand Up and Be Counted ! (http://www.malwarecomplaints.info/index.php)
The site offers people who have been (or are) victims of malware the opportunity to document their story and, in that way, launch a complaint against the malware and the makers of the malware.
Stay clean and be safe ;)
Yes, those files were on purpose.
I was attempting a packet flood, and a packet monitor to decrypt a packet for a game.
I changed the Internet Explorer name because I thought the infection would be affected by a different name for IE, but I was wrong.
Now that my computer is no longer infected, I plan to install Deep Freeze, which would pretty much solve the problem of infections permanently. :P
Thanks very much. :D
That's great news and you're very welcome :D:
