View Full Version : WIN32.TROJAN.SPY virus problems plus more
I am having a major problem with more than one trojan virus, my registry values are beyond f**ked, i have several programs that are supposed to eliminate the problems, and none have.
I have WinAntiVirus 2006 popups opening up every time i get online, and my computer has gotten to the point where i refuse to get online because i fear it will crash very soon if i do.
It has shut down my Norton Anti Virus protection more than once, and i have had several blocked Trojan.vundo's and its almost nonstop. My computer periodically has had to shut itself down due to .exe's being terminated without warning.
I know that i have a problem with the win32.trojan virus, and the trojan.vundo virus. i have also had problems related to a registry key known as MSSMGR. I have tried to delete it both physically and with programs that
have been listed in other threads. Neither method has worked. Also, i have tried your Spybot Search and Destroy program as well, and things seemed only to get worse.
I seem to also have a problem with cookies dumping themselves uncontrollably on my computer, and i have yet to stop or even begin to know how to stop an uncontrollable flow of malware etc. into my computer. The situation is so bad, that i had to use a laptop (from a friend) just to post this thread.
I need serious help.
I know that a particular member of yours by a name something of LS Calamity
or something along that line who has resolved many of the same problems i am having now, but i have attempted the same methods for solution, and nothing has worked.
A lot of research has led me to believe that much of the problems have come from a website known as WildTangent. I had an ex-friend look up porn on my computer a while back and thats when all this started to happen.
I can't fix it, and i don't even know where to begin. I am pissed off, stressed, and on the verge of tears trying to figre this out. I have college classes i need to attend to, and now i can't. 9 out of 10 times, IE closes shortly after opening it. I'm so emotionally turbulent over the situation that if i saw my old friend who was the cause of this, i probably would have introduced my bat to his face (if that gives any of you an idea as to how pissed off and upset i am).
i have emailed the webadmin twice, asking for links to threads that might have helped me, and i have had no response.
I payed almost $2000 for my computer, and i CANNOT afford to crash and reboot the entire hard drive; i have too much to be lost, and no means to save any of it.
I have tried using all of the following to avail:
Norton AntiVirus 2006
CWShredder
Spybot Search and Destroy
Ad-Aware SE Personal
XoftSpySE
AVG version 7.5
I don't even know how to post a HijackThisLog. I barely figured out how to post this thread.
I think maybe some help might soothe me just a little.
The least i would really like is a response to inform how long the wait for help would be (assuming i'd be getting help...).
Anyone?
I think this is my HTL, but not sure because someone has yet to explain to me how to do it... im still new at this.

Welcome to the forum, it appears you missed this very important information: "BEFORE you POST" -Preliminary Steps
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288 Please read and follow the instructions. You can hold that anti-virus scan, I will let you know if it need it.
You have a nasty infection and it is going to take some work to clean it up. I will ask two things, please keep your computer offline as much as possible until we clean it, the junk will attract more and please relax a little, it is not a good thing to work on your computer when you are not calm and relaxed.
Since you mention the Vundo trojan, we may have a hidden one. Please return here:
C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Administrator\Desktop\Hijack This\HijackThis.exe <<< point your mouse at HijackThis.exe and choose rename. Call it magnus.exe or whatever. The next HJT log should show us the Vundo infection if it is there.
Now I need to say that you are showing that you have HJT installed twice, look at your HJT log. If you have it installed twice, it is very important that you delete one copy. Make sure not to delete the one you rename.
We will use HJT to remove some of the junk now, please follow the directions carefully.
1) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.
2) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.
3) How to use the Delete on Reboot tool
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial42.html#delreb
Start Hijackthis
Click on the Config button
Click on the Misc Tools button
Click on the button labeled Delete a file on reboot...
A new window will open asking you to select the file that you would like to delete on reboot. Navigate to the file: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winfiy32.dll and click on it once, and then click on the Open button.
You will now be asked if you would like to reboot your computer to delete the file. Click on the Yes button if you would like to reboot now.
4) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
Restart the computer and post a new HJT log, please include any comments you think will help.
Thanks
Your Java program is outdated, see this: http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=12880&postcount=2
C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_06\ <<< out of date, download the newest version and uninstall all old version in Add Remove Programs.
okay, so far so good... except for one thing; i couldnt delete the file "ovwsege.dll". It opened a menu that said "access is denied: make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use"
While i wait for your response, im going to uninstall the outdated java and install the new one that you gave me the link for.
Also i was wondering... did you read my second post in the forum? it has way more info. I also wanted to ask you if i could delete all my quarantines from the scanners i had been using to try to resolve the problem. The scanners i had been using are listed in the second post...
Meanwhile, heres the new HTL (prior to th6e java change):

i looked up the list of programs in the add/remove programs window, and the only java related programs listed are the J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 updates 5 and 6. did you want me to uninstall both of the updates? you only listed one (update 6). Also, is there a way i can set up an auto-update that would also inform me of when the update takes place so that i can remove the older ones?

Please dispose of all old logs, I need to see a new HJT log. If I need information from the other topic you started, I will look after tashi combines the posts. If I need information, I will ask for it. If you have questions not pertaining to the instructions, please note them and ask them later once you are clean.
If you have a problem deleting a bad file, use the same "delete on reboot" tool or boot to safe mode and delete it there when it will not be running.
Thanks
i saved the download onto my jump drive, plugged the drive into my computer, and my computer doesnt recognize the file appropriately. It doesnt recognize the JNLP format. Perhaps theres another method?
sorry...
here's the new log

Thanks for posting a new HJT log, it looks better but this item was scheduled for removal and is still there:
O2 - BHO: FrontierBA BHO - {A93A3CC1-BA23-4d0d-9440-6A0148362B7E} - C:\Program Files\FrontierBA\BrowserAssistant\fbabar.dll
http://www.castlecops.com/tk31167-fbabar_dll.html
CastleCops and myself consider this item questionable and optional. If you can not or do not wish to remove stuff according to my instructions, it is your computer but please make me aware so I will know it is not being missed...thanks.
Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 7:30:55 AM, on 2/27/2007
Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:
O2 - BHO: FrontierBA BHO - {A93A3CC1-BA23-4d0d-9440-6A0148362B7E} - C:\Program Files\FrontierBA\BrowserAssistant\fbabar.dll
O3 - Toolbar: &Frontier Browser Assistant - {A93A3CC9-BA23-4d0d-9440-6A0148362B7E} - C:\Program Files\FrontierBA\BrowserAssistant\fbabar.dll
Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"
Besides that, this HJT log appears to be clean of malware, let me know how the computer is running.
Thanks
okay,
this time it seemed to get rid of them.
I wanted to ask you a question though. Spybot, last time i ran a scan, found that smitfraud-c.toolbar888 file that seemed never to go away. im running a scan right now to see if its still there.
Meanwhile, the menu that kept popping up about the internet being temporarily unavailable has stopped. it used to be that about every twenty seconds something kept trying to acces the internet and every time it tried (this is when i unplugged the cable in my modem) it kept asking me if i wanted to try again or work offline, and now its finally stopped.
Thanks much for that
also, should the popups for winantivirus stop now too (along with the other ads)?
(mind you, i JUST plugged my internet cable back in)
and for my last question; was the MSSMGR registry value taken care of during all of this? or will it pose future problems (i assume this a redundant question; please dont think i underestimate your ability. You're a god to me)
Oh, my spybot scan finished...
it still has that Smitfraud'-C.Toolbar888 and a Microsoft.WindowsSecurityCenter_disabled listing
heres the log:

also i looked up the MSSMGR value using the regedit and the MSSMGR value is still there. I know its loosely associated with the smitfraud thing. I didnt delete or change anything in the registry.
other than my questions, things seem okay.

I wanted to ask you a question though. Spybot, last time i ran a scan, found that smitfraud-c.toolbar888 file that seemed never to go away. im running a scan right now to see if its still there. Is your version of Spybot up to date? I understand this was a false positive from a while back:
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=8668
Smitfraud-C.Toolbar888
That should have cleaned up with the newest data base. I will also look at the rest of your questions, but I would prefer you post questions about Spybot here: http://forums.spybot.info/forumdisplay.php?f=4
Let's do a check with Smitfraudfix to make sure nothing is lingering. I will also post closing information for your benefit. Please review it and post in 24 to 48 hours, giving you time to make sure all issues are resolved, and let us know.
http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php <<< Download Smitfraudfix from here and follow ONLY these directions.
Search:
Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select 1 and hit Enter to create a report of the infected files. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt
Post that report when you have it.
System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:
