I have done WinAntivirus remover, Spy Sweeper-trial version(supposedly removed Maxifiles), VundoFix, which removed Vundo, but when i restarted my computer without Spy Sweeper running it came right back, and I ran Spybot in safe mode, found several things and fixed them.....anything else i can do??
Also running Norton Internet Security 2006.
I know i need to update to windows service pack 2, but i hafto make sure my computer is cleaned 1st! Once cleaned i will do SP2!

hi sparks911,

log dosnt look that bad.

it came right back

what came right back?

unless you installed this:
Viewpoint Manager
i would remove it via the add/remove programs panel, it most likely piggy backed in with something else.

Vundo came back before when i used vundofix, it fixed it for awhile, I did notice Spy Sweeper kept blocking access attempt to 85.?.?.?, After awhile of no problems, I turned off Spy Sweeper to not start at windows startup and when i rebooted, Vundo came back. So I checked on here, did what it said before you post & also ran Spy Bot & vundofix in safe mode! Spy Sweeper isn't saying blocking access attempt to 85.?.?.? now either!
All appears to be ok at the moment......explorer.exe not running 50% processor usage anymore! No more pop-ups so far!
Do I really need to keep running Spy Sweeper, it's just the trial and expires in 8-9 days anyways?
Also i was wondering about these entries in HiJack logfile:

Do I need to do anything with these???
Should i go ahead and install winxp service pack 2 now?
Thanks for the help! Truly appreciated!

hi sparks911,

Also i was wondering about these entries in HiJack logfile:

the 02 and 20 are part of vundo,. using vundoFix took care of that. the 023 is a service thats been disabled, maybe you uninstalled it.

Do I really need to keep running Spy Sweeper
nothing wrong with spysweeper. you have anything else other than spybot?
----------------------------
the real time protection compnent of spysweeper if active could interfere with using vundo. in safe mode its not active so that may be why the fix worked when you ran it in safe mode.

Do I need to do anything with these
no
---------------------------
you can do this;
run vundo once more in safe mode and post the report t it generates in next reply, also a log form a rescan with hjt please. just for one more look

Vundofix ran in safemode found:
C:\WINDOWS\System32\uxqmnfur.dll
it seems to find this file everytime i run it.
I use Norton Internet Security 2006 (subscription just expired so i'm gonna get NIS 2007 or CA Internet Security 2007, which is better?) and nothing else,( i have spybot) i turned off spysweeper and am going to uninstall it, as the trial is almost up....i also accidentally installed the version with antivirus, that's what was messing with Norton! Should i purchase regular spysweeper? Can i do Windows SP2 now?
All appears to be ok for now!

hi sparks911,

subscription just expired so i'm gonna get NIS 2007 or CA Internet Security 2007, which is better?

the one you keep updated is best. personally ive never used either one but would most likely go with with CA 2007. want a free one? AVG antivirus

i also accidentally installed the version with antivirus, that's what was messing with Norton

yes two AV isnt good

Should i purchase regular spysweeper
up to you, nothing wrong with spysweeper, spybot and another malware app is good.
------------------------------------
launch vundo, right click on the window, the option to add more files will open
in the first box copy/paste:
C:\WINDOWS\System32\uxqmnfur.dll
click add files, then close window, then click remove vundo button
at the prompt "are you sure you want to remove...."
click yes
-----------------------------------
after the reboot launch hjt and have it fix these:

hi sparks911,

Also what is this?:

those two 016 are activex objects and where installed by web site. you can select both of them and have hjt " fix" them.

Do i need to turn off Norton when i install SP2
wouldnt be a bad idea.

i suggest you get CA 2007 like this:(9.99 is a great price)
download the .exe somewhere, like your desktop, but dont launch it yet

uninstall norton via the add/remove programs panel
also uninstall norton live updater if present in add/remove programs panel
reboot if not prompted to do so.

uninstall webroot spysweeper via add/remove programs panel
reboot if not prompted to do so.

install CA 2007 by clicking the saved file you downloaded to install CA 2007
-------------------------------------------

Should I shut off system restore to delete restore points, then turn it back on?
yes, your log looks good and it looks like you already know how to do it

turn it off then reboot (deletes restore points)
turn it back on then reboot (creates new restore points)

i would do this after you uninstall norton and install CA 2007
--------------------------------------------
i would say you can download and install SP2. the download will be a massive one. i hope you have broadband.
