I do a search in IE>click on a link>IE redirects me to a website I did not choose. Below is the Hijackthis log. All the help is great.

Welcome to the forum, if you still need help, it appears you missed these instructions:

Read and follow all directions, especially this one:
Note: In notepad under Format, uncheck "Word Wrap" Produce all HJT logs like this, single spaced.
It is preferable, and the log easier to read, if you do not use the [code] or [php] options.
You are also running System Configuration Utility (MSConfig) in Selective Startup mode. I need to see the logs with everything enabled (Normal Mode)
You are running HJT.exe from a .zip file in a Temporary Directory. This is unsafe as we will have no backups. That is why you received this message when you used HJT: http://russelltexas.com/malware/images/unsafefolder.gif
Please use the information in the following link to place HJT in a permanent, safe folder, I prefer C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe. If you need additional instructions use these: http://russelltexas.com/malware/createhjtfolder.htm
Follow the instructions in this link to disable Spysweeper, it will block the changes we must make:

At the least, this is a Wareout infection and we will run that fix now:

Save it to your Desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
Once the desktop loads post the text that will open (report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log in the forum please.

I will follow the directions and re-post my log. Can I post the log here? This virus or malware or something is really getting to me. Everytime I search in google then click a link>it re-directs to another address. When I use the drop-down error on the back button in IE I have enteries like "jump". If I click "jump" it goes to the page it re-directed to. Let me follow the directions here and I will get back at 03/13/2007. I currently have MaCaffee and AVG installed. Should I disable virus programs before creating new log. Also can a link be givin to me about regedit. I would like some information about regedit and how I can fight virus using regedit.

Please read an follow the directions as I have posted them. Once you run the Fixwareout tool you should get some relief from the problem, but I need the directions to be followed. I can't tell what I am not seeing when you are running in Selective Startup mode and I can not scan a log when it is formatted.

I hate spysweeper program. Aside from that here is report and a new log. Can I uninstall spysweeper as if you do not buy or subscrible it does nothing for you. I am asking if I can install it as I know during this process I am not to make changes until instructed. I was able to get Fixwareout app downloaded to desktop and ran it. It ran with no issues and restarted window.

Thanks for the feedback, that's why I asked about SpySweeper. I don't want to tell folks to uninstll it if they paid their $$$ for it. It is a fair program that does the job if you own it. I would appreciate it if you would leave it there until we finish so we can do a scan with it, then please do uninstall it, it uses a bunch of your resources. (we need to talk about a replacement before we finish)
You need to read the directions again, especially this one:
Note: In notepad under Format, uncheck "Word Wrap" Produce all HJT logs like this, single spaced.This means to click on Format at the top of NOTEPAD and then uncheck WORD WRAP. You can do what you wish with WORD WRAP when we finish.
You are running two antivirus programs at the same time and this is not a good thing. They conflict with each other and you will be less safe than if you ran one good program and maintained it properly.

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"
3) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
Restart the computer and post a new HJT log along with your comments. How is the computer running.
Once that log is posted, making sure you update, then follow these instructions to run a SpySweeper "Sweep".
Click on Options > Sweep Options and check Sweep all Folders on Selected drives. Check Local Disc C. Under What to Sweep, check every box.
Click on Sweep and allow it to fully scan your system.
When the sweep has finished, click Remove. Click Select All and then Next
From 'Results', select the Session Log tab. Click Save to File and save the log somewhere convenient.
Exit Spy Sweeper.
Restart your computer, and then please copy and paste the SpySweeper log into this thread.

I realized this when I got to work today and logged into the website excited to see the review of my log. AHAHA ok I will go home tonight and post a new log without wordwrap. Good new: After running Fixwareout and logged back into windows. I have two users set up on this laptop. The result is the same for both. I started IE>did a search>for ex new york>first link is www.nycvisit.com> click on the link title and IE went to www.nycvisit.com. This is great. I believe righ now Fixwareout got rid of the problem. However I want to do a very indept analysis. I am making this a learning experience for myself to really understand how to read the reports. As this troubleshooting process continues step-by-step I would like to understand more about virus and malware, system registry, and how to test my computer to make sure it is clean. That is later but now I will get that log up for review. Thank this is great I am getting excited to KILL VIRUS and MALWARE!

Thanks, the scanner I use does not work when the HJT log is formatted. I will need to see a HJT log from this other user, they may be infected also?

I see no malware in this HJT log, but I do see all of this and I have not included the McAfee Person Firewall. I suggest you reread the information I posted about running multiple antivirus programs. If you have any doubt this is going to case you problems, contact technical support at either Grisoft or McAfee and ask them.

However I could not find within the program where to make a log. I assume it does not have that option because I am not subscribed to the service. What is the next steps you would like me to perform. Well, if I can't see the SpySweeper scan let's hope it removed what you said it found. I still suggest you uninstall it.
The important thing about editing the registry is to remember always to make a backup. If a mistake is made (and it will notbe if you are careful) you have the backup to return the computer to where it was.

I would like to know what services I can turn off and will this help with security. Is there a way to get to services thru the control panel. I have a 2nd computer that has WIN2K on it and I believe there is services found thru the control panel.

How can I add a picture under my name when I post?
User CP > Settings & Options > Edit Profile Picture You can then Browse to your hard drive and choose a photo, keep this in mind:
Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 100 by 100 pixels or 64.0 KB (whichever is smaller).

I am not familiar with services in 2M having never run that OS. You may want to search Google for information.
