I have the following problem,

At the moment I hit some of the searchresults in Google something redirects me to a site I'm not looking for. It looks like that something with the ip adress 216.133.243.28 has something to do with it.

Close all browsers and other windows except for HijackThis!, and click "Fix checked".

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

Click Start>Run> Type in (or copy and paste) ipconfig /flushdns and hit enter. You'll get a confirmation that the flush was successful.

FOR CONNECTION PROBLEMS :
Click on Start, Control Panel, select the Network and Internet Connections category or double click on Network Connections, depending on which View you are using. Then right click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl, and left click on properties. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item. Write down the settings in case you should need to change them back. Select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS servers automatically.
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks. If it does not prompt you to reboot go ahead and reboot manually.

Once the desktop loads please post the text that will open (report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log.

Running the command ipconfig/flushdns I received the message that Windows cant find this.

Did you copy & paste the command, or type it in? There must be a space, like this> ipconfig /flushdns not like this> ipconfig/flushdns.

Your Java is way out of date, which leaves your computer vulnerable.

Updating Java Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.0 (http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp). Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications". Click the "Download" button to the right. Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement". The page will refresh. Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop. Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser. Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java. Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name. Click the Remove or Change/Remove button. Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions. Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed. Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6-windows-i586.exe to install the newest version.

Please run HijackThis! and click "Scan." Place checks next to the following entries, if present:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE

Close all browsers and other windows except for HijackThis!, and click "Fix checked".

* Using Windows Explorer, search for the following file and delete it if still present: ALCXMNTR.EXE

Reboot your computer.

I think al the measures are working. :bigthumb: I found no recent problems with the google results.

At the end there were 8 entries of the alcxmntr.exe of which two embedded in the soundcard drivers. The problem with my soundcard are also gone.

I've downloaded the JRE 6.0 version and also installed an other antivirus program (bitdefender).

I hope the problems will stay away.

Hi Teacup,

After removing the entry alcxmntr.exe from my computer I had no sound :oops: After looking around on other forums I found out that this entry has something to do with the drivers for a realtec 97 soundcard.

Most HP Pavilion computers have an embedded soundcard on the motherboard.

After reinstalling the drivers (from the HP customer service site) shows again.

I think we can conclude that this isn't malware??

The particular file I wanted you to delete should have been in system32. I didn't know there would be 8 of them. :oops: It is considered slyware. Read here : http://www.castlecops.com/startuplist-180.html

* Download free software only from sites you know and trust. A lot of free software can bundle other software, including spyware.

Please consider using an alternate browser. Mozilla's Firefox browser is fantastic; it is much more secure than Internet Explorer, immune to almost all known browser hijackers, and also has the best built-in popup blocker (as an added benefit!) that I have ever seen.
