After repeated attempts to configure an internet connection with DSL (Bellsouth), and numerous attempts to correct it through auto diagnosis tools, I cannot determine what has gone wrong. The computer used to connect to my cable linksys without errors. attached is the log file from hijackthis. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Diane and welcome to the forum. If you still need help I can tell you I know just enough about this issue to get us both in trouble:laugh: That being the case, I am going to say this:
Since I see no antivirus scan results, chances are you missed these instruction: "BEFORE you POST" Mandatory Steps Before Requesting Assistance http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
You would want to read those in the event we do proceed beyond this informational stage. I see nothing in the HJT log to indicate anything causing this problem. Have you recently dealt with any infections, especially winsock hijackers?
Here is the google where you might fine some help: winsock catalog error
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=winsock+catalog+error+&btnG=Google+Search
In the event you have not posted the error message "word for word", I would take the time to google it that way.

This is of course use are your own risk information, but this is a good site:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/winsock.htm

and this is good information to review:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=winsock+repairs&btnG=Search

You said "linksys" if you have a router in line, remove it and wire direct to the modem and see what happens. You have complete all troubleshooting technigues, like shutting down and restarting all items in the connection, computer/modem/router.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=troubleshoot+winsock+errors&btnG=Search

Thanks
