hi spikenla,

are you running vista OS? look in add/remove programs panel and uninstall if present: (although it probably wont work)
SpyLocked

you have smitfraud, iam pretty sure the special app to remove this wont work on vista.
if you are running vista please download the vista beta version from trend micro.
download to desktop, double click to launch, click scan, then save log. post new log in reply.

I am running Vista. I cannot unstall spylocked, because Windows Explorer keeps restarting. I don't have enough time between restarts to get to it. I can't install PC-cillin because it wants me unistall AVG. The unistall runs but doesn't remove it.

-thanks for helping me

hi spikenla,

the best/quickest tool for removing smitfraud only runs under w2000 and XP. i dont know of any commercial app that will remove smitfraud.

I can't install PC-cillin because it wants me unistall AVG
only need one antivirus on a computer thats why PC-cillin wont install, theres nothing wrong with AVG antivirus though.

superantispyware does run on vista, lets see what it can dig up. there is also away to save alog file after it scans your computer, iam in linux now and cant check, if you can figure it out please post the saved report form the scan in next reply.

hi spikenla,

lets try this:we will do it all in SAFE MODE, so i would copy/paste the rest of this into notepad and save it somewhere so you can find and read it in safe mode.

to reach safe mode you would tap the f8 key during a computer restart, chose the first option from the list: safe mode.

ok once at the safe mode desk top do this: all this could be slightly different in vista but i would think the options for doing it all should be there:

Clean out your Temporary Internet files. Proceed like this:

* Quit Internet Explorer and quit any instances of Windows Explorer.
* Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Internet Options.
* On the General tab, click Delete Files under Temporary Internet Files.
* In the Delete Files dialog box, tick the Delete all offline content check box , and then click OK.
* On the General tab, click Delete Cookies under Temporary Internet Files, and then click OK.
* Click on the Programs tab then click the Reset Web Settings button. Click Apply then OK.
* Click OK.

Next Click Start, click Control Panel and then double-click Display. Click on the Desktop tab, then click the Customize Desktop button. Click on the Web tab. Under Web Pages you should see a checked entry called Security info or something similar. If it is there, select that entry and click the Delete button. Click Ok then Apply and Ok.

also do this:

might have to get all files to show first, like this in vista:
Windows Vista

* Click Start.
* Open Computer.
* Press the ALT key.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.

using explorer(right click on start>explore) drill down to these >>> you want to delete whats >inside< the folder, not the folder itself<<

C:\Windows\Temp\

C:\Documents and Settings\-Your Profile-\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\ (will dump all your cached internet content including cookies)

C:\Documents and Settings\-Your Profile-\Local Settings\Temp\

C:\Documents and Settings\-Any other users Profile-\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\

C:\Documents and Settings\-Any other users Profile-\Local Settings\Temp\

still in safe mode, run super antispyware once more.
-------------------------------------
reboot computer normally. what do you mean by AVG wont work, it wont update or scan?

I could not find the "Delete all offline content" checkbox. When I tried going to Documents and Settings it said it was restricted. I ran SUPERspyware in safe mode, and it did not find anything. AVG will not run. I've tried reinstalling it, and it still won't work. It will not let me uninstall it either.

hi spikenla,

iam not very familiar with vista and the new restricitons for different accounts. are you logged on as a admin. on your computer? that might be why you cant remove avg. of course i would think you would be able to run it though.

spikenla
2007-03-24, 05:10
I am logged in as an admin. I checked that when I got the restriction. AVG hasn't worked since I upgraded to Vista, although its supposed too. I have tried everything I can find to remove it, but nothing has worked yet.

hi spikenla,

lets try a online scanner to see if it can dig up anything--pick one of these to run:

BitDefender Free Online Virus Scan
http://www.bitdefender.com/scan/licence.php
check AutoClean under Scan Options.
---------------------------------------------------
Panda ActiveScan

http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm

* Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
* A new window will open...click the Check Now button
* Enter your Country
* Enter your State/Province
* Enter your e-mail address and click send (use a fake e-mail)
* Select either Home User or Company
* Click the big Scan Now button
* If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
* It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
* When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
* When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location. Post the contents of the ActiveScan report

----------------------------------
Kaspersky virus scanner
http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

click on online scanner, accept EULA, after it loads database (may take awhile) click next
click Scan settings button
select extended
Under Scan options check both Scan Archives and Scan Mail Bases, then ok
click on My computer link and scan will begin
after scan is done there is a option to Save report as a .txt file. Click that button. Copy and paste the report into your reply

Housecall at TrendMicro
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp
check Auto Clean.

hi spikenla,

you said you where trying to install PC-cillin, but it wouldnt install because it detected AVG. you sure PC-cillin is compatable with vista?

we could try to disable the AVG service, then attempt to install PC-cillin, it might work, it might not. up to you. let me and we can try it

hi spikenla,

before we disable any services, lets try this:

download the latest avg free version to your computer from here:

http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/lng/us/tpl/v5#avg-anti-virus-free

launch the file, during the install process when you get to the

"select setup type"

select the>> uninstall product option, then next to continue thru the wizard.
hopefully that will remove it.

I've already tried that and it didn't work. I downloaded yourUninstaller! 2006, and it was able to remove it. I downloaded pc-cillin, the vista edition, and tried to install it. When I clicked Next after selecting where to install it, an Access Denied error popped up. I've tried redownloading it and reinstalling it, but I keep getting the same error. I've even tried changing the folder that it would install in, but get the same error.

hi spikenla,

ok i misunderstood. so AVG is off your computer now? pretty sure the access denied error is due to vista restrictions. even though your logged in as admin, some things (like installing a file) run under the general user accounts, unless you as the admin change them. right click on the pc-cillin file you downloaded and see if under properties there are any tabs. sorry but i have very limited exp. with vista. i will try to find out some more info.

Yes, AVG is off of my computer now. I have successfully installed pc-cillin. I had to right click on the setup file, and click run as administrator. I checked out what you had told me to do in properties. You have to goto the security tab, and that is where you can change the restrictions for the program.

hi spikenla,

ok. good thanks for the info.

Pc-cillin also had to uninstall spybot

it asked you to uninstall it or removed it automatically?

remember those online scanners that didnt work. did you get a popup about allowing/installing the activeX component, which is needed for the scan.

how about rescanning with hjt and posting a new log since its been awhile.

It asked me to remove spybot. I don't remember any activex popups, i would have probably downloaded it if it did popup. I think they were all incompatible with Vista.

http://esupport.trendmicro.com/support/viewxml.do?ContentID=EN-1033903&id=EN-1033903

http://security-central.us/SafeHex/file_sharing.htm

No that did not happen. Before I uninstalled spybot I undid all the changes that it had made to my computer. Everything looks good, I'm not having any problems.
