View Full Version : Can't Get rid of Video ActiveX 1.15, popups

I mistakenly downloaded a program called Video Active X object 1.15. Through using Spybot, I think I have been able to remove it, but there is still a pesky "white question mark" which flashes into a red-circle with a line thorugh it that remains on my task bar next to my clock. It constantly pops up messages with "System Alert" telling me i need to download certain anti-spyware. I can't seem to get rid of it. Maybe this isn't related to Video ActiveX but I thought that was what was causing my problems.

I ran the online anti-virus scan "Housecall for alternate browseres" but it did not come up with a log at the end. This is the log from Hijack This.

Welcome to the forum and thanks for following directions. These programs may block the tools we will use, please use the instructions and turn them off until after you run the tools:

AVG Anti-Spyware: Deactivate the Resident Shield
- Before proceeding, deactivate the "Resident Shield" as this may prevent changes to the registry.
- To do this, click "Change State" to the right of the Resident Shield option in the main window.
- You will clearly see the status change to Inactive if you have done this correctly.

SpySweeper: Open the program
On the left, click: Options, then > Program Options
Uncheck: Load at windows startup
Again on the left click: Shields and uncheck all items there.
Uncheck: Home Page Shield
Uncheck: Automatically restore default without notification

This is a Smitfraud infection and these instructions will help you get rid of it: http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=4015
Smitfraudfix will create a C:\report.txt after you run the "Search" function and it will create another after you run the "Clean" Function in Safe Mode.
I would like you to post both reports and a new HJT log.

Thanks...we will have more to do.

For your information:

C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_05\ <<< your Java program is out of date, see this information:
http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=12880&postcount=2

Do you own these programs:
C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5\
C:\Program Files\Webroot\Enterprise\Spy Sweeper\

Here's the smitfraudfix report: I forgot to save the first one, and I think this one saved itself over it, so this is the log from after the clean. sorry about that.

Well, I think that's it, I hope....that was a really long post. Let me know if there's anything else i need to do. Thanks. And I never requested that report, things will run so much better if you read and follow the directions.

Smitfraudfix will create a C:\report.txt after you run the "Search" function and it will create another after you run the "Clean" Function in Safe Mode.
I would like you to post both reports and a new HJT log. Please post the HJT log ONLY and respond to this question:

Do you own these programs:
C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5\
C:\Program Files\Webroot\Enterprise\Spy Sweeper\

Thanks

I'm really sorry about that previous post. I really thought I was following directions and giving you what you'd asked for. But as I said in my first post I'm a complete computer novice, I don't even know what a log is. So sorry for the mess up. I hope this is what you're after.

Also,
I do own AVG anti-spyware. I used to own Spy Sweeper, but I had trouble getting rid of it, I finally got tech support from the company and was able to remove it. I don't know why it still shows up, but maybe that's why it says (file missing) anyway....I don't know about these things.

Again, thanks so much, I have no idea why you guys volunteer to do this. But it's really, really helpful.

OK and I understand, we were all new at one time. If there is something in my instructions you do not understand, please post and ask that I explain. This would be much better than proceeding with incomplete knowledge and doing damage to your computer. You have posted a HijackThis log.

Before we start, I wish to be sure you installed this program and know it is running on your computer:
O10 - Unknown file in Winsock LSP: c:\windows\system32\nmnsp.dll
O10 - Broken Internet access because of LSP provider 'cespy.dll' missing
http://www.covenanteyes.com/help_and_support/category/?c=20
http://www.castlecops.com/lsp-204.html
http://www.castlecops.com/lsp-4.html
Please note the stuff has created a Broken Internet Access, I have to assume your internet is working, but if you ever have a problem, this tool tool may restore your connection:
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html

Spysweeper is still running from your services, the (file missing) is a glitch in how HJT reads services, it is running.
O23 - Service: WebrootSpySweeperService - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Webroot\Enterprise\Spy Sweeper\SpySweeper.exe (file missing)
O23 - Service: Webroot CommAgent Service (WebrootCommAgentService) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Webroot\Enterprise\Spy Sweeper\CommAgent.exe (file missing)

I wonder where they hire these technicians from. If you only want to diable it so it does not run, do this:

Disable the Service
Click Start > Run and type services.msc
Scroll down to WebrootSpySweeperService and right click on it.
Click Properties and under Service Status click Stop, then under Startup Type change it to Disabled.

Do the same thing with this item >>> Webroot CommAgent Service

If you want it totally remove from your computer, then do this:
Delete the Service
Open HijackThis and click Config -> Misc Tools -> Delete an NT service.
In the Delete window, type (WebrootSpySweeperService) and press OK.

Do the same thing with this item >>> Webroot CommAgent Service

Since you own AVG Anti-Spyware, let use it to make sure you are clean, please follow the instructions in the numbered order.

1) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

2) AVG Anti-Spyware: Deactivate the Resident Shield
- Before proceeding, deactivate the "Resident Shield" as this may prevent changes to the registry.
- To do this, click "Change State" to the right of the Resident Shield option in the main window.
- You will clearly see the status change to Inactive if you have done this correctly.

3) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

(the first two Realbar items are optional, if you use them, leave them)

O2 - BHO: REALBAR - {4E7BD74F-2B8D-469E-C0FF-FD60B590A87D} - C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\Real\Toolbar\realbar.dll
O3 - Toolbar: REALBAR - {4E7BD74F-2B8D-469E-C0FF-FD60B590A87D} - C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\Real\Toolbar\realbar.dll
O16 - DPF: Yahoo! Poker - http://download.games.yahoo.com/game...ts/y/pt3_x.cab
O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} - http://207.188.7.150/04d0f79b5d3daf8...p/RdxIE601.cab
Netster adware
O23 - Service: Webroot CommAgent Service (WebrootCommAgentService) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Webroot\Enterprise\Spy Sweeper\CommAgent.exe (file missing)
O23 - Service: WebrootSpySweeperService - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Webroot\Enterprise\Spy Sweeper\SpySweeper.exe (file missing
(last two may be gone when you get to them)

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

4) RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\Program Files\Webroot\ <<< delete that folder

5) Use the instructions in this link to run AVG Anti-Spyware, make sure you delete or at least quarantine anything it locates and save the scan report to post.
http://forums.security-central.us/showthread.php?t=3165

6) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart the computer and post the AVG Anti-Spyware scan report and a new HJT log, let me know about any malware problems at this point.

For your infomation:
