Security Centre Disabled on Startup!!? [Archive]

Hello all,

I hoping somebody will be able to help me with my problem. My Security Centre is disabled everytime I start Windows despite selecting 'Automatic' startup in the services window.

I have followed most of the instructions in the "BEFORE you POST" post however stupidly chose to remove the malware found when I carried out an online scan with Trend Micro's online scan. I also stupidly did not make a note of the name of the malware found. I do remember that it did say something about exploiting the security vunerabilities or system.

What I do have however are two HijackThis v1.99.1 scans. One from before the malware was found and one from after which I have posted below.

The online scan also found some tracking cookies (which I also did not make a note of before removing!) and following two windows vunerabilities:

Here are the two vunerabilites I ommitted from my first Post:

1) Vulnerability in WordPerfect Converter Could Allow Code Execution (884933)

2) Buffer Overrun in JPEG Processing (GDI+) Could Allow Code Execution (833987)

Welcome to the forum, if you still need help, I will see what I can do. You said:

Please explain this...when you set the Startup Type to "Automatic", are you being sure to "Apply" and "OK" your way out? Are you making sure to Start the service below that?
Once you do that, restart the computer to make sure the change went into effect, then do this:
Start > Control Panel > Security Center and report what you see there.

I also stupidly did not make a note of the name of the malware found. I do remember that it did say something about exploiting the security vunerabilities or system. I wish you did also, error messages are very important when troubleshooting. I need to see them "word for word"
Information about what was removed might point us to where to look also.

These items should have been addressed by Windows Updates. To be sure open Internet Explorer > Tools > Windows Updates, then follow the instructions to download and install all critical updates for your computer.

Since I am seeing no malware, before we proceed, please correct the items I have pointed out, then post the information I requested along with information that makes you think you have a malware problem. If need be, we will proceed from there,
