Please help with google hijack virus

Something is wrong with my computer so that whenever I use an internet search engine like google.com, the results screen comes up normal but when I click on a link, it sends me to a random website. If I cut and paste the link, it will open normally. My computer also keeps resetting my internet homepage to google.com.


I ran the eTrust Antivirus Web Scanner which found the following three viruses:

I did not delete or do anything with these files.

I also ran Spybot Search and Destroy which found 16 problem files and I erased all of those.

Welcome to the forum, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I need to say first that you are severely infected. Read about the ones I can identify:

Trojan.Looksky is a Trojan horse that opens a back door and downloads files onto the compromised computer. The Trojan also contains rootkit functionality.
You need to read all information in that link, this trojan has seriously compromised your security.

C:\WINDOWS\System32\svehost.exe take your choice, hackers change the name often:

You have a load of other junk that I can't even identify.
A Backdoor is a software program that gives an attacker unauthorized access to a machine and the means for remotely controlling the machine without the user's knowledge. A Backdoor compromises system integrity by making changes to the system that allow it to by used by the attacker for malicious purposes unknown to the user.

One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan.
This allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and Download and Execute files
I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.
Though the Trojan has been identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of Trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. Thank you for your help. I am in the process of backing up my data so that I can reformat my hard drive. Once I have reformatted, should I run another HJT scan? Or will there be nothing left for me to do and it will be fixed?

A reformat will wipe the drive clean, if you wish to post a log at that point, mention that you just did a refomat and someone will be glad to take a look for you.

I have reformatted my hard drive and installed most of the anti-spyware software and a firewall and antivirus program from the "How Did I Get Infected Anyways" thread.
