I have gone through the pre-requisites on this forum to the tee and although things are somewhat better (before I could not even run HJT) I can now at least get around a bit on my computer I am still having an issue. Essentially my computer continues to find the Trojan.Vundo among other things. Because I have TeaTimer running it gets into this endless loop where it is trying to make registry changes and I keep clicking deny. I will post my most recent HJT log below.

I have been battling with this issue for about 3 days now and it is exhausting, thank you so much in advance for any assistance. Oh, also I have run the VundoFix, The Look2Me Fix (found nothing), the ATF Cleaner for both Firefox and IE, SuperAntiSpyware, and Dr. CureIt. As well as Spybot, Adware, and Symantec Corporate (I can post additional logs or details on these as well)

Welcome to the forum, you are infected and I am 99.9% sure it is Vundo:
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7A5C6872-78F2-4B24-BD41-A5C18170D55F} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\urqpnll.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: urqpnll - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\urqpnll.dll

Before we start, let me explain a couple of things, hackers call their junk anything they want and the fix we will use can't know all of these possible names. It may not know all of the files the first time (and there is probably hidden junk you can't see) but it will learn. I have seen it take as much as 6 or 8 runs to remove it all. You want to watch the report and you are successful when all Vundo files report as "has been deleted"

Next, programs you are running may try to prevent the changes we must make, they need to be turned of before you run the fix.

Tea Timer: http://russelltexas.com/malware/teatimer.htm

SUPERAntiSpyware: Please disable SuperAntispyware. Right-click on the shortcut from the
system tray, choose View Control Center (preferences/options), on the General and Startup tab, uncheck, Start SUPERAntispyware when Windows starts, click Close to exit.

Delete all versions of Vundofix you may have on your computer and follow these instructions.

Thanks to Atribune and any others who helped with this fix.

Please download VundoFix.exe (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4) to your Desktop
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log in a reply to this thread.Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

If there is a file VundoFix doesn't find we need it submitted. Please submit
the files to upload malware http://www.uploadmalware.com

Thanks

Thank you so much for assisting me. I have disabled both tea timer and super anti spyware, and downloaded the latest vundofix. It found 2 items and I did as you said. The HJT log and vundo text file are posted below.

Thank you.

Thanks for returning your information and Vundofix did locate and remove some of the junk, but it did not get the files I highlited in red. Try the fix again, look at this French forum, though it is a little hard to understand, scroll down to this post:

Posté le 02/03/2007 16:42:56 <<< this one and you will see where the fix deletes the file you have showing in your BHO's and Winlogon.

Attempting to delete C:\WINNT\system32\urqpnll.dll
C:\WINNT\system32\urqpnll.dll Has been deleted!

C:\WINDOWS\system32\urqpnll.dll <<< on your computer

Run the fix and watch for it to remove that Vundo file. Post that report and a HJT log.

Thanks

Well I have run the Vundo fix about 10 times now and each time it will remove 3 files, all 3 always have the same extension but different random names. My Symantec is also popping up something called InfoStealer now. When I disable my Anti-virus software then the Vundo fix doesnt find anything, but when it is enabled it does. Do I need to stop any of those files from loading from within HJT? I will post two new logs here in a few minutes.

Thank you again so much for your help.

Let's try another tool, though you could see that file was removed by this tool at the French forum? I will assume you followed the directions to upload the file.
If there is a file VundoFix doesn't find we need it submitted. Please submit
the files to upload malware http://www.uploadmalware.com

Do you ever wonder what you pay Symantec for? Not only does it not stop the junk to start with, but then it can't remove it.

Please download VirtumundoBeGone:
http://secured2k.home.comcast.net/tools/VirtumundoBeGone.exe
* Save it to the Desktop
* Close all running programs (including your Internet Browser)
* Double-click VirtumundoBeGone.exe on the Desktop
* Follow the directions as indicated

This program may generate a "BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH" which is an expected/necessary part of the process.
Do not be concerned.
Just reboot if your system "jams".

To confirm successful deletion, and determine if there are any additional problems, please post the VirtumundoBeGone log VBG.txt. It is found on the Desktop.

Thanks

Yes Symantec obviously doesnt work, do you have a better anti-virus program that you can recommend that I run in unison with Spybot?

I uploaded the malware file and all information:

"Your file (urqpnll.dll) was successfully submitted. If someone requested you submit this file please let them know that you have submitted the file."

I am trying the next application now. WIll post log in a few minutes.

Thank you.

I wish I could tell you what program will stop the junk, but the hackers are making lots of $$$ and all they have to do is count the $$$ and figure ways to beat your security. Governments don't seem to be able to do anything either. I use McAfee but it is getting a bad as Symantec, their new program is hugh and I took away my CC number, and will go with freeware. Though when all is said an done, that infection probably got onboard as a results of a bad script you picked up at a website you would never have thought it of. Here's what I mean:

I don't use that fix very often, but it seems to have found the file. See what Symantec has to say. I would like to get another opinion, if you do not own SuperAntiSpyware and don't intend to purchase it, I would uninstall it.

Follow the instructions in this link, make sure you delete or at least quarantine anything that is found and post the scan report:
http://forums.security-central.us/showthread.php?t=3165

I would also check Symantec carefully, make sure it updates ok, and that there are no issues with it. Malware will often corrupt AV's, firewalls, etc. just enough so they appear to be working.

Post a new HJT log and the AVG Anti-Spyware scan results and let me know how things are running.

Thanks...Phil

Thank you for the suggestions. I have re-enabled tea timer. So far it has not gotten into that endless loop as it did before. Spybot did find a few things on another run of it. The computer does seem to be running a little better now though.

Here is my latest HJT log, do you think I am finally rid of this thing? :)

Yeah, I think we have killed the malware and good job sticking in there:bigthumb: I am sure you are aware there is no script and that every infection is different depending on the junk they infect you with. This is my suggestion now.

1) Move HJT from the Desktop for safety. I prefer C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe, if you need additional instructions use these: http://russelltexas.com/malware/createhjtfolder.htm

2) Complete the instructions and post that AVG Anti-Spyware scan results I requested in my last post. That will clean areas we can not see.

3) I suggest you stop by PCPitStop and run a free diagnostic on your computer to see what it reports.
Diagnostic: http://www.pcpitstop.com/
Results: http://pcpitstop.invisionzone.com/index.php?showforum=6
TechExpress - Step by Step Instructions
http://www.pcpitstop.com/techexpress/howto1.asp
I would appreciate a link to the test results, I may spot something.

4) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

Make sure TeaTimer is disabled, it will block the changes you want to make)

5) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

(If you don't use the HP re-directs I suggest you check and remove them, they are not making your browser run faster. I am assuming MSN is your HomePage)

O20 - Winlogon Notify: !SASWinLogon - C:\Program Files\SUPERAntiSpyware\SASWINLO.dll

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

6) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

If everything goes well, I really do not need to see another HJT log. I would like to see the AVG Anti-Spyware Scan Report. I will give you all the information now.

To help speed you up and make you safer:
http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miekiemoes/slowcomputer.html
http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miekiemoes/prevention.html

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001111912274039?Open&src=sec_doc_nam

AVG Anti-Spyware is a good program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.

Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:

Here is my PC Pitstop link:

Here is my AVG log:

---------------------------------------------------------
AVG Anti-Spyware - Scan Report

+ Scan result:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\clcrb.log -> Downloader.Agent.apb : Cleaned.

::Report end

I am working on the other suggestions that you posted.

Thank you!

Looking at the results, You can see you need more disk space, follow all the instructions in the links I posted, then test again to see if the maintenance helped, but let's face facts, you need more disk space. Open MyComputer, then the C drive. Right click then click Properties. Post the used and free space. This is what the diagnostic says:
Drive C:\ has only 12 percent of its space available.
Drive D:\ has only 13 percent of its space available.

You also have major issues in your security settings, follow the links and follow the advice. If you run into questions, since the forum is free (I also help with logs there at times) register and post your questions, they work with the reports all of the time and will be better at giving you answers.

You need to have running one good antivirus program, one good firewall and at least one good spyware program that runs in realtime. AVG Anti-Spyware will give you realtime protection until the trail is over. If you do not wish to purchase it, then read the links for a good freeware program. I can suggest you look at this one:
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx

Thanks

I cannot thank you enough for all of your help. I would have had to re-format the drive for sure. And even then may have gotten another virus fairly quickly.

I am happy to make a donation, let me know the best way to do that (I want to make sure at least a portion of it goes into a beer, pizza, and coffee fund to keep you guys going :))

Best,

Ash

Thanks Ash for your kind words, we all volunteer our services so no :beerbeerb: fund  I am sure it costs plenty to keep a site like this up and running. Any donation will be appreciated and you can do that here:
