I have read most online stuff to get rid of this and tried some as well. Wanted to save someone the trouble of helping me out, now it seems I can not do without some major help. Have booted in safe and run S&D (fixed) until nothing was found. Logged on normally andposted is my HJT log.
I have two logons (admin) plus administrator, can i log into any.

I will greatly appreciate any help.

Welcome to the forum and thanks for reading the directions. Looks like you had a Vundo infection also. Before we proceed I need to point out two things. The version you used of Smitfraudfix is outdated and the fix was run in normal mode instead of safe mode. Search can be run in normal mode, but when you Clean it will do a much better job for you in safe mode. Having said that and to be sure your computer is clean, I would like you to do this, and in the numbered order:

1) http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php <<< download version 2.157 from here and follow ONLY these directions:

Search:
Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select 1 and hit Enter to create a report of the infected files. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

2) Move HJT from the Desktop for safety. I prefer C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe, if you need additional instructions use these: http://russelltexas.com/malware/createhjtfolder.htm

3) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.

4) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

5) CounterSpy:
Right-click the running icon of CounterSpy in the system tray.
With your mouse, hover over Active Protection Status (This should be enabled).
A menu will slide out and then you need to right click on "Disable Active Protection". Reverse the process when you are done.

6) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {6A1B4E81-BA82-4A41-BBAC-6BFFE7F69A83} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\awtsq.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7A5C6872-78F2-4B24-BD41-A5C18170D55F} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\efcaaxy.dll (file missing)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SoundService] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\pdfmqnno.dll",setvm
O20 - Winlogon Notify: efcaaxy - efcaaxy.dll (file missing)

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

7) RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\pdfmqnno.dll <<< delete that file

8) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart the computer and post the C:\report.txt from Smitfraudfix, a new HJT log and your comments. How is the computer running.

Thanks

First off, Thanks so much for your time and effort.

Have done as you requested, a few small problems though.

1. Counterspy was not in my system tray so I open it and made sure Disable Active Protection was set.

2. Could not delete "WINDOWS\system32\pdfmqnno.dll", so restarted in safe mode and then deleted, restarted and did a HJT. Below is the reports you wanted.

S&D is still picking up the Smitfraud Toolbar.

I was in normal mode when i carried ot your instuctions. Also do I hae to be logged on as Admin or just have Admin rights on the logon that I'm on?

Do I need to run this for each account?

Ran Smitfraud in safe mode, then carried out your first instructions . Nothing to delete in the HJT file and compute seems to be playing the game now.

From one small AUSSIE guy I thank you very much, donating time to help people like me is something you should be very proud of.

Regards,
Mick

OK, we will work our way through this. First, you have not posted a the C:\report.txt from Smitfraudfix. You posted the header and then a HJT log without the first four lines. Please take the time to read and execute the instructions carefully, we are working on your computer and want no problems. Please make sure you are using the newest version of Smitfruadfix and follow these directions ONLY:
Search:
Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select 1 and hit Enter to create a report of the infected files. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt
I need to be sure NONE of the infection is left and this report will tell me that. Post (copy and paste) all information in the C:\report.txt.

S&D is still picking up the Smitfraud Toolbar <<< this is a false positive in Spybot which was supposed to be fixed a while ago. Are you sure you have the latest version of Spybot and that all databases are up to date. If so, then read this information and either ignore that item or over ride it in Spybot.
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=8668

If you have multiple user accounts, I should see a HJT log while signed in to each one. If you post these, mark them clearly.

Your HJT log looks good, clean of malware, let's clear up the issue of the Smitfraudfix report and I will post valuable information to help you stay safe and get you on the road.

Thanks...Phil

I hope this is right, you say thr report is "usually at C:\rapport.txt"
and then ask for "all information in the C:\report.txt". Have copy and pasted from rapport.txt.
The HJT's are from each Login, the only reason I have Mick & MickN logins is because I was in the middle of creating a new login as all of a sudden my desktop icons kept arranging themselves and I kept losing my quick launch toolbar at each login, so i created a new "mickN" and will delete the old "Mick" login later.

OK and thanks, I am not sure how you are getting that Smitfraudfix report? Look at this link:
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=12225 and scroll down to post #3, that is an old version and that computer is infected where yours is not but you can see what the report should look like.

This is the only complete log that is posted:

Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1
Scan saved at 2:15:08 AM, on 28/03/2007
Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)
MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16414

and that HJT log is clean. Do you have other users to post, if not follow these instructions.

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:

Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:

Checked the first link re smitfraud log. I get what you are saying but when I run smitfraudfix, I get the extra stuff in the rapport.txt.
What was the problem with "MickN" and Admin" HJT reports??????
My compuer seems to be back to it's old self. I turned off System Restore last week when i started this mess, will turn it back on now. Will read and digest your links on staying clean and safe online.
Thanks again for your time and effort.
