Hi,

A few days ago, SSD has detected "CoolWWWSearch.SmartSearch" in C:\autorun.exe. So, I let SSD scan again at system startup to fix it more freely. After fixing and by scanning again, that CoolWWSearch seemed to be gone. Later I found out that it is still there and can spread itself to other media though the automatic autorun function was disabled since long on PC.

If I am not wrong, the infecting files are:

Thank you for replying me.
I did this online scan before the start of this thread. The result happened to be the same for all AV engines... "Virus Not Found".

To my knowledge, only two have detected it so far (it is NOT a false positive). They are my dear "Spybot Search&Destroy" and the AV engine of Yahoo! email (likely Norton when I tried to upload as an attachment a zipped folder containing copies of the above 10 files).

By the way that infection spread itself by the "autorun" function if set to ON or by double-clicking a media in order to open it.

I got a similar infection more than a month ago so all "autorun" were disabled... but it seems one of my guests double-clicked the icon of his USB infected portable HDD when conneted to my PC :D:

Sorry because when I said, in my previous post, that I got a similar infection, I didn't mean the exact same one.
If I remember well it was associated to a name "Perlovga" and its three spreaded files were:

C:\copy.exe
C:\host.exe
C:\autorun.inf

But it happened at that time I met a friend visiting my city for a few days. He had a bootable CD (with some tools on it) by which he was able to remove the files we thought they are infected from all disks. After that, "Perlovga" didn't show up but I still get an empty window (with a strange title) with an OK button (that needs to be pressed) at every system startup. Everything else was going fine till the coming of "autorun.exe".

While I was writing you, my son (29 years) was already scanning the infected PC using NOD32 (not sure of the name) that he downloaded today. I am afraid now that the cleaning will probably not be complete. But I didn't argue with him because the PC is run usually by him or our guests. I am waiting the result hoping it will not be too late for any serious cure if the cleaning was not complete.

I take the opportunity to point out that everytime I followed, step by step, the instructions of a helper in this friendly forum, I ended up with a perfectly clean PC. :bigthumb:

Basically, we are trying to find out if this is a false positive or not, and now you don't have the PC in question we cannot do one on one in this forum.

Please ask the person who has the machine to produce a *complete* Spybot bug report:

Open Spybot-S&D and start a scan ("check for problems"). After the scan, right-click in the results field and choose either "Save full report to file..." or
"Copy full report to clipboard".

Attach the file (or copy the report) to the email and send it to: detections(at)spybot.info (Replace AT with @)

Sorry for not seeing your post yesterday. Things went rather fast. And it seems that NOD32, downloaded from "Eset", was able to paralyze the infection and the suspicious files were quickly deleted in all drives (though I still have a copy of them in a zipped folder).

On the other hand, I couldn't not to reply your post... You and Shaba were very kind to give me your time and attention.
