View Full Version : System Alert - Spylocked

One_Kan
2007-03-28, 20:57
I have a problem; I'd hoped today's new update would get rid of it, but it hasn't. In my taskbar, I have an un-killable icon, which blinks between two frames: a blue question mark and a red circle-slash symbol. Clicking on it brings up a page for a faux-spyware removal product called "Spylocked."

I have the same problem as this guy!

Anyways, heres my log:-

p.s. Thank you in advance :present:

Welcome to the forum, sounds like Smitfraud infection, let's have a look.

http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php <<< download Smitfraudfix from there and follow ONLY these directions:

Search:
Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select 1 and hit Enter to create a report of the infected files. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Note: process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool". It is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/processutil/processutil.htm

Post the C:\rapport.txt

Thanks

Nasty infection, let's proceed like this and please follow the instructions carefully, and in the numbered order.

1) O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSConfig] C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\MSConfig.exe /auto
You are running MSConfig in Selective Startup mode. I do not know what I am not seeing, return it to Normal Mode, you can go back to SS mode to save resources when we are finished. Make sure this is done before you post the next HJT log.

2) http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php <<< tutorial if needed

Clean:
Reboot your computer in Safe Mode (before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually)
Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select 2 and hit Enter to delete infect files.
You will be prompted: Do you want to clean the registry ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found): Replace infected file ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to restore a clean file.
A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Optional:
To restore Trusted and Restricted site zone, select 3 and hit Enter.
You will be prompted: Restore Trusted Zone ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to delete trusted zone.

3) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O9 - Extra button: PacificPoker - {94EDF7B4-4272-4af3-8F8B-4E2F68E225B7} - C:\PROGRA~1\PACIFI~1\pacificpoker.exe

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

4) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart the computer and run another online virus scan (use the same scanner as before) Post the C:\rapport.txt from Smitfraudfix, the results of the online scan and a new HJT log. Please add any comments you think will help.

Thanks for returning your information, let's do this now.

1) Delete Firefox cookies: http://www.mozilla.org/projects/security/pki/psm/help_21/using_priv_help.html

2) C:\Documents and Settings\Telboy\My Documents\Quarantine\ <<< delete the contents of that quarantine folder. Whatever that is?

3) Remove Smitfraudfix from your computer. That will take care of the online scan items.

You may use HJT to remove this dead line:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)

Everything else looks fine, let's do this now:
System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:
